whos to say that whoever is sending out these notices didnt do there homework before starting all of this. a simple search would have found ( http://www.microsoft.com/info/cpyrtinfrg.htm ) for them and that info would help them try and make there crusade legit. as for the email address , Contractors, Consultants, Iterns, and vendors have @microsoft e-mail addresses. But they have v-flastname@microsoft.com. They're many other ways to have @microsoft.com e-mail addresses. Partners are an example.

with that said there are to many holes in this situation , we definatly need more info coming from a voice conversation at MS rather than an email that cant be verified.

All of the letters we have received have been to the threads/posts that contain the download links. Whether the links are on our FTP or Rapidshare, etc doesn't seem to matter.

Agreed; we could not post the links to my server. I was saying that the roms could be dumped on my server for safe keeping, and a way for people to get what they are looking for. Certainly not for the masses like it is now, but still available to many.

The IPs in the header of the email all look like they came from MS. One is a public IP for smtp.microsoft.com, and the email was routed from what looks like internal MS mail servers.

I left a message with Mike asking him if he could call the number he has for Judy Weston to get some more info for us. I got a phone number in my email, but anyone could setup a voicemail and make it sound like its from MS.

I believe Rainfreak asked based upon the above page why they would have anything to do with take down's because they don't take reports of copy right infringment... well that is because they take marching instructions as they are a legal team not the complaints dept.

I just don't see why MS would target a CDMA specific Windows mobile 6.5 ROM. There are a hell of a lot more GSM 6.5 ROMS (and phones for that matter) out there than CDMA. If they were really trying to protect Windows mobile 6.5, wouldnt that be the place to start?

mindfrost went to http://www.microsoft.com/PiRaCy/ and found there contact number for the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Hotline (800) RU-LEGIT anyways called them up and once again gave them the link to XDA to read the letter, placed on hold so the guy could talk to a Supervisor, supervisor did not recongnize the domain or the person and is escalading it up through the chain to get an answer and will call me back and send an email of the final decision. I told them about the J.K. Weston so they are going to "hopefully" get an answer. They did say there address would be @microsoft.piracy.com or piracy@microsoft.com and for the notice to be effective it should have a physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed. So we shall see
