youre joking right? HTC can chose any chip manufacturer it wants. there are PLENTY of other options- TI OMAP, Samsung, etc for processors that all work and have 3d acceleration. Hell the flop 800w with 2007 specs had hardware 3d acceleration on a TI OMAP. Furthermore it IS HTC's fault, because Qualcomm 7201 actually DOES support 3d acceleration, HTC is just too cheap to buy the proper licenses for Qualcomm to give them the drivers, or whatever issue between HTC and Qualcomm exists. This has always been the "driver" issue with HTC/Qualcomm on their last 2 series of devices including these new ones. Its not the chips its HTC not buying the drivers. Either pony up and buy the licenses, or use a different chipset but not having proper hardware acceleration is unacceptable now.

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

this is extra lame news. buying a phone now, with a QC chipset seems like a waste of money with tegra lying just around the corner.

Read on the HTC page, I don't see any 4gb storage on the new diamond 2... It seems only to have more ram/rom space and a SD slot, no more built-in space

Nvidia has some of the greatest engineers in the industry working for them. Aside from that, most modern GPU's are also theoretically capable of processing general CPU instructions so it wouldnt take them much time to develop a solid ARM compliant chipset. Another side note is that they make motherboards too so again, plenty of experience that can be applied directly to the mobile market.

Waiting makes very little sense to me. It will probably be a year before the new one is readily available in the states. By that time we will all have been enjoying the current TP for probably a year & a half & then I will sell mine on ebay & buy the new version.

I have done this probably four times now & upgrading doesn't cost me sh!t each time. I bought my current Sprint TP on ebay for just over $300, converted it to Verizon service & didn't have to sign any contract etc etc

When the new one comes out, I will sell these (I have 3 of them) on ebay for probably $200 (I sold a VZ xv6800 two weeks ago for $200 on ebay) & use that towards the new ones.

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

Come to think of it, if the new TP really did eliminate the video out then I wouldn't swap mine even for it.

I use the video out every day, that feature was one of the main reasons I didn't buy a Diamond (that & the lack of a storage card)

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

Couple of thoughts.

1. Capacitive touch screen, (no stylus? not true some bozo has come up with a stylus for the iphone/ipod touch)
2. Aluminum Unibody Construction, with an aluminum full back plate (we need better heat dissipation than the rubberized plastic will do for us
3. An external Antenna port option. (would it freakin kill ya to make it so that those of us in the middle of no where get an 11dbi gain antenna to attach to this thing)
4. PUT THE MAGNETIC CLOSURE BACK ON THE STOCK CASE FOR THIS THING!!!!!

these phones generate heat when they use the radio, no matter what radio software you use

heat kills electronics, why not build a way into the back of the phone to dissipate the heat. This would allow faster processors and what not, and more power to be pumped through the radios...

oh well, back to lurking

Dan

Well if they gave us everything we wanted, we wouldn't upgrade to the TP3, which will have video out AND a 16:9 display LOL
