Re: Text warning-Calif residents

The problem is not texting. Its taking your eyes off the road. So why even play around just cite us for that. This new law is not about saving lives, its about $$$ anyway you look at it.

Really, so traffic laws are nothing more than money makers??? So I should be able to do 90+ in a 35 zone? We, as a society, need to get the idea out of our collective head that we're entiltled to operate a motor vehicle, and understand that it's a privelege with restrictions, being that you're operating a one ton (or thereabouts) hunk of steel.

Yeah...tell that to the families of people killed by drivers who were texting instead of paying attention. The police and the law exist solely to try and take your money and keep you down, right?

The law says no email, web surfing, texting or talking without hands free. 1st offense $20+ court costs, second $50+. Looking at $120 first offense and insurance company will not be too happy that you like to look at phones instead of the road.

It's on the books in Louisiana also. It just makes sense to pay attention while you're behind the wheel, because it's your life and the lives of others that are at risk if you're not paying attention.

Re: Text warning-Calif residents

I agree hole heartily with traffic laws for safety, this law should be implemented through out the U.S, regardless this isn't about anything other then safety...I lost my mother in a car accident when I was a child, not from texting off course but from a simple safety law that was made years later about vehicles being towed behind...Anyway no one should be complaining about this, they should be happy that people will be deterred from being more careless where we travel with our families.

Re: Text warning-Calif residents

Newfounland was the first in Canada to pass a cell phone while driving.

The law has been in effect since April 1, 2003 and ban handling a phone while driving. Phone can be used with a hands free system.

Drivers found to be in violation can be ticketed $45-180 and receive four demerit points per violation.

We have a demerit point system in Canada that varies from one Province to the next but basically you can accumulate a limited amount (Approx 12 to 15) before their suspend your driving permit. Any traffic violation inccurs demerit points. Then when you renew your car insurance you have to sign an authorization permitting them to have access to your driving records!

Nova Scotia has a similar ban since April 2008 and Quebec put their in effect July 1, 2008.

Other Canadian Provinces are considering implementing similar regulations.

Common sense alone should dictate someone not using texting while driving but some individual do not care.

The law here in Quebec has been effective since July 2008, I still see plenty of people driving with their phone in their hand.

BTW, be warned that people in Nova Scotia will blast their car horns at you should they see you driving with the phone in your hand.

Re: Text warning-Calif residents

I believe I read @ radioshack that dialing a number is not against the law if you have a bt headset. They had a paper with stating so.. with CHP logo and all. Maybe you can say u were dialing a #.. if u have a BT headset on
