Sprint's 4G Xohm service to begin testing soon

I live in Baltimore where they are testing the service and was on the waiting list for info. They just sent me a survey designed to choose testers next month and I am all over that. If you get picked to be in the survey you get to keep the nice new Centrino 2 laptop they give you for testing and you get to use the WiMax for free that month (of course with the option to pay for it later after the trial).

I really hope I get picked to test this and get a free laptop!

Re: Sprint's 4G Xohm service to begin testing soon

You have to live in Baltimore. That is where they are testing the network. Anywhere else and you aren't going to be chosen. You have to go to a meeting one day and then do some other survey/meeting type things. The point is they want to test and verify proper coverage and functionality before bringing it online for the public so you need to fill out a survey including what zip codes you will be using the service, etc.

Re: Sprint's 4G Xohm service to begin testing soon

Well, it is live now. I won't know if I made the testing group for a little while still. The pricing is not bad at all considering how much 3G modem plans cost. It's $10 per day if you just want 24 hours and it's $30-35/month for home or mobile service. Both home and mobile are $50. They have some discounts for the first 6 months so if I do end up in the test and get a wimax laptop I might just sign up for a month or so. The best part is that there are no contracts and it is month to month. If it sucks, just leave it and go with someone else.

Re: Sprint's 4G Xohm service to begin testing soon

I got the survey as well, but was dismayed when I saw their coverage map this morning. My neighborhood is surrounded on 3 sides by coverage, but we're left out in the cold. Again. Just like FIOS. I work in Fells Point, so maybe that will be enough of a qualifier for me to get a tester laptop, but I doubt it. And based on the price plans, I'd ditch Verizon DSL in a heartbeat if this service proves reliable enough. Grrr.

Re: Sprint's 4G Xohm service to begin testing soon

Fells Point won’t be overlooked by XOHM when it comes to coverage. I would keep checking the coverage tracker as it will continue to fill in. If you want to give it a try, XOHM will be at upcoming events around Baltimore with demonstration stations/vehicles for people to test it out. I haven’t had the opportunity to test it yet, but given that I’m working with them I hope to do so in the very near future.

Where can the coverage maps be located? i live in Elkton (north eastern most town on the DE line). Will the service be offered/tested here? Zip=21921. Thanks.

What we currently know is that XOHM is headed to Chicago and D.C. next - You can search for your area using the Coverage Tracking Tool located here: http://www.xohm.com/en_US/learn/get-xohm/

Other cities on the XOHM trail include Dallas, Fort Worth, Boston, Providence and Philadelphia.

Damn.

I'm up in White Marsh and there is a little pocket of coverage down the street, right off 95, and then over on Bel-Air. Sadly, I am not colored in mustard yellow, which means I lose out.
