So Far So Good [[minireview]]

Got the droid a few hours ago, replacing a Titan.

First, nice phone, much higher quality build than the titan, I love how solid it feels. The keyboard is very usable, and the virtual keyboard is surprisingly good, imho.

Android 2.0 runs very snappy on this phone, i have multiple things going (pandora radio, messaging, twitter etc) with no slowdowns.

Still getting used to the touchscreen vs the Titan, feel like it's harder to get it to do what I want right now, fingernails/etc aren't as effective as on the titan.

Deal Breakers/Game Changers: Android 2.0 will let you sync multiple exchange accounts (Something Microsoft still hasn't figured out). I have 3 exchange accounts pulling email and contacts into the phone. It's AWESOME. The combined inbox is cool, but being able to open each inbox seperately is also nice.

The placement of the power plug is retarded. Talking on it while it's plugged in is a PITA, couldn't it have been at the bottom?

Nav works pretty decently, the GPS if fast to catch a good read, and so far the battery life has been pretty good.

Love the regular sized headphone jack on it, very nice touch.

App store has plenty of apps, as we all know...

If there's anything I'm missing ask, i'll investigate for ya.

Good to hear.

Another question:

I am going to be switching from a TouchPro to this phone. If I don't use an exchange server, what's the best way to get all my information onto the Droid? I would like to avoid going to a store and using Cellebrite if possible. I am looking into Googlesync but don't really want another email address (don't use gmail right now).

Good question, I synced them in from exchange and GMail, but the store I got my phone from did offer to move my contacts from my old phone to it.. not sure how they'd go about it...

You have to have a gmail account to even activate the phone.

Well, if activate means to open the app store, yes, you do. Don't need it to 'use' the phone otherwise from what i could tell. I did have a google account, (not gmail enabled) and it forced me to pick out a gmail email address.

The quickest way and simplest seems to be to export your contacts from outlook to a .csv file then goto your gmail account. On the contact screen there is an import button. Use that and wa la. I ran through all my contacts in gmail on the computer to clean up any that needed it and then let the phone sync them.

Indeed the csv file was the best way for me to bring my Outlook contact to the droid. After that, creating contacts on the phone its self will sync up in gmail as well.

Considering its a capacitive touch screen, your nails wont work on it...
