Just wanted to comment on this part. There is a built in task manager on the Droid to close 'Services' that are running. I know it's not quite the same, but you don't have to look for a 3rd party task manager at least.

Personally I think an X on the corner might work, but a better way might be closing it from the Apps choosing window--the one that shows up to 6 apps running at the same time. Just highlight the app in the window and choose to close. That would be awesome.
