Skim thru the first 3 or 4 pages of threads here in this forum (or the androidforums link below) - just skim the subjects and you will find many that fit a lot of your questions.

This is a good forum here at ppcgeeks, and this has an awful lot of info:
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/
But I also like HoFo and droidforums.net.

For anything related to development though, alldroid is the best:
http://alldroid.org/viewforum.php?f=104
The "bugless" rom's are probably the most popular right now, but I'm using the Sholes 1.1. They come out with new versions and updates constantly, which is good and bad.

And I give you 1 day with the Droid before you make it your main phone.

Re: I might be getting a MD Monday!!(but still will use my tp2 as main device)

A lot of good files to have are here at sholes.info: Important files
Includes the rooting app, nandroid backup app, original dump of nexus rom and the Droid kernel among others.

I ended up using this rooting app as others didn't grant me superuser permission from my phone (only had access from the adb shell on my computer)

You'll want the Android Software Development Kit from google.

If you're a Windows guy you'll want the USB debugging tools for the Droid from Motorola.

I hate to link another forum, but this is probably section at alldroid.org to look at the really nice ROMs and communicate with who's developing them.

Re: I might be getting a MD Monday!!(but still will use my tp2 as main device)

I have a TP2 and a Droid. It's nice to have the best of both worlds. Once Android gets Slingplayer though, I'm steppin from WinMo. I just don't have time to surf two different forums at once to tinker wit my toys. Haha.

You won't be disappointed though. Have fun
