Droids contacts went missing...help

for whatever its worth -- i had the exact same problem (and was a little alarmed), found this thread, went to contacts > menu > display options > selected my gmail account, and clicked the checkbox to display "all other contacts" and the problem was resolved... it was (in my case) definitely not a problem with my phone, but with my display settings...
thanks to the original poster who cleared this up for me!!!
