I was able to get on-line here in Venice and download the original Energy ROM I loaded in May. That ROM loaded OK. As soon as I download the September ROM you made available I'll give it a shot.

The September 18th Energy ROM loaded no problem, but it has the same problem the other versions had here in Europe. You can connect to the GSM network and use the phone, but the data connection, which is supposed to be intrinsic in the GSM connection, does not. The phone keeps trying to call #777 for an Internet connection whenever an Internet app is loaded.

Has anyone ever use Energy on a GSM network and used the Internet?

Yes, I just used the phone with Energy ROM in Switzerland and the Internet worked fine. You just have to configure it (depends on your GSM provider - they usually have instructions online). Go to Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->New and enter the settings that your provider wants (or just try to leave the defaults) and then in "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:" choose your newly created connection.

This happened to me too in Norway and in Brazil. I use Verizon. Since those annoying failures, I found this potential fix but have not been overseas since to try it.

This is from another post (I just saved the text):

go to your server settings where your #777 is..
Choose new while in the same settings, I usually go to advanced and choose my isp which is default for NRGZ.

Enter a name for this connection, I use vzw embedded gsm
connection leave it to cellular,

connection is emgsm.vzw3g.com, (use keyboard)
next window, user name: 1&yournumber@emgsm.vzw3g.com (like 17815551212@emgsm.vzw3g.com)
pass: vzw then click finish

you should now see 2 connections under my isp.

used for data and multimedia

Could you please try it (if you are still overseas using Verizon) and let us know the results? Or, any tweaks you needed to do?

I tried reflashing to Energy Standard 21916 Sept 29th from the previous 21679 Standard.. and it errors at 0% while the program is running, regardless of what computer I use..

Am I doing something wrong? after it fails, I ran HSPL manual unlock, and it made the phone run just fine again with its current ROM: EnergyRom "Standard" 21679 Sept 24 if I'm correct.

I have created such a connection and it does work stateside.

I loaded the stock Verizon ROM and now have Internet! Also, I just looked at the connections and there is now a 'VZW Embedded GSM' connection with all the settings exactly as you described!

I'm loading Energy ROM back right now.........

Works PERFECTLY with the Energy ROM!! I'm syncing with the Exchange server back in Seattle now.

The settings for me are:
VZW Embedded GSM
Cellular (GPRS, 3G)
emgsm.vzw3g.com
xxxxxxxxxx@vzw3g.com
vzw
domain box is blank

That's good to hear. I love these ROMs but not having data connections can ruin your day. Now, I will be more at ease on my next trip. Thanks for testing it out!

It's a known issue. He's released the 10/1 update to correct it. I seem to be having issues unzipping it though. Downloaded two versions and I get the same error using 7-zip and Winrar... Unsupported file compression...

I just pulled the 10/1 and it unzipped and flashed fine for me, running it now.
