Yeah this sucks. Everyone PLEASE make sure google knows we are not happy about this. I know a lot of people will be moving on to the Hero or Tattoo soon, but this is putting a limit on ALL future modders and developers if we let it continue.

yu have to make sure yu have the right default file
look for default-panel 3
thats what worked for my sprint touch

Yeah its damn near ridiculous and has me seriously reconsidering even going with Android phones now. I love the software but if its not going to be truly open source, it losses a lot of its appeal. Especially now that Microsoft has re-dedicated themselves to WinMo. I may just hold off on that Hero in a couple of weeks.

Android the os is still open source, it's the Gmail, and google talk apps that google has issues with being released and used as those are not open source applications and were never intended to be released publically as far as google is concerned. It is still a bit dodgy but I see there point on it.

ok now I am all confused. does this mean we will need to pay for google services .? cuz I tell you what... being on the go with google by my side makes life easier. I been a gmail user for years.

No from what I've seen google won't be charging for them they just don't want the current set of apps out there for all phones, as they wanted them for the hero dream and any stock android phones(This is where people were pissed cause they only cease and desisted the one guy and he was only making roms for those phones) So it looks like either some use old ripped and illegally obtained(Technically) versions of the apps or find third party solutions. The market should still be fair game and usable so and everything else is fine by google as long as those apps aren't included.

The reason for the C&D as far as I understood was that some apps included in the offending ROMS were not open source. They MAY be available for free out there, but since they are not open, then Google had to put the kibosh on them.
