Required Memory for Sprite Backup Exceeds 2GB!

I have been using Sprite Backup successfully for awhile, but now for some reason it says I need 2.3GB space and only have 1.75GB available on the card (it is a 2GB card).

I have cleared all unnecessary files off the card and removed a bunch of programs from the Device but it still wants 2.3GB for the Backup. How do I reduce the amount of space Sprite requires?

Thanks

BB

Don't backup all of your programs and what not.

Re: Required Memory for Sprite Backup Exceeds 2GB!

My Sprite Backup file is about 78 megabytes. That with a LOT of programs installed.

Check your options. Have you checked " Exclude Storage Card"?

I store all storage card files in a separate folder on my PC harddrive, never as a backup file on the storage card itself.

Sorry, didn't even know sprite had the option to backup the storage card.
I personally never do.

I don't think that's the problem. In his post, he said he has 1.8gb out of a 2gb card free. So assuming he's using 200mb on his storage card + say an average 100mb on the phone for a total of 300mb to backup, which his 1.8gb free memory card can do easily.

Re: Required Memory for Sprite Backup Exceeds 2GB!

My concern with the size its trying to backup is whats in the email (outlook, exchange, etc) and are there alot of attachments, basically is it trying to pull the attachments down from a server and back them up as well

that could be the cause of the size issue - just speculating

@user60396561
I do see what you mean, and do agree,
but I think it could be something more along
the lines of what Detroit Doug said
or it's just something that got screwed up in sprite backup.

@Detroit Doug, you always seem to post right before me,
I wouldn't have even noticed your post if I didn't check back on the thread before I submitted my reply.

Re: Required Memory for Sprite Backup Exceeds 2GB!

The main reason I want the Backup is to preserve my ICube and HTC Customizer mods on my phone.

To perform the Backup, I have deselected everything except System Data, which includes Program Files, Databases, etc. I am NOT backing up Storage Card or E-Mail --- and the backup failure message says it needs 2.3GB and the Storage Card only has 1.88 free.

To clarify, Backup files are stored on the Storage Card and each one takes up about 78MB. I have kept at least five on the card at one time.

So it appears that there are some huge files in the System folder that choke the Backup. I have even removed Google Earth, Pandora.

I did a Backup of everything EXCEPT System Data and it performed it fine - about 9.9MB and it did it easily...so I know the Backup works.

Any thoughts on what is choking it?

From your information on your trial and error methods, I would guess that it wants the size difference due to temp space as it moves and compiles the data to be backed up into a file

Much like defrag on a PC needs a set amount of open space to move files to before it reorganizes things and then moves it all back - Sprite might want some temp space to properly temp the file then move into the archive

I personally have never used Sprite so its just speculation - I just use PIM Backup as I just want the data, not the progs as I can reinstall them myself

Free Programs to Remove Temp PIE Files?

I agree about it needing that extra space for the process. I just need to figure out what has changed on my phone to reduce the amount of space available.

I did use the trial version of Memaid once but that has expired. Besides, there has to be a way to make this work without another piece if $25 software. One thing Memaid did was remove temp PIE files. Is there a free program to remove these?
