Re: Data block disables GPS
Yup, GPS uses data. No other way around it.

Re: Data block disables GPS
I have an app. ,GPSToggle, that simply turns the GPS on and off. Whenever I turn the GPS on it tries to access data. I am not trying to access Verizon for the GPS just simply turn on the GPS chip.
I also have GPSToday, another nice application that I can no longer use. I reallly don't need to access the internet so I guess I'll just have to do without. I do wish I could get it working though. |

Re: Data block disables GPS
That's not entierly true. I have explained this in other threads before. aGPS is al that requires a data connection. Standalone GPS works with no Internet connection. So in short, you don't have to have a Data connection...

You need to be careful though becuase there are a bunch of programs that may try to query the web for settings (i.e. QuickGPS, GPS toggle, Google maps, etc) so you need to know that your program isn't trying to access. A quick test would be to change #777 to #222 or something funny and see if it gives you the bubble that states that it "cannot connect for some unknown reason". Do your experimentation a few days before the end of your bill cycle so you can see what your data usage is (or dial #DATA or whatever that verizon code is and check the balance before and after testing).

Re: Data block disables GPS
My GPS works just fine without data the GPS works non assisted. It takes longer to lock and doesnt work so well in rough weather but it still works. I am runnign GPS mode 2 in my registry. Now im not on the MR1 update so that might make a difference.

Re: Data block disables GPS
I am running on mode 2 also in my registry and my server IP for qpst and registry is 66.174.95.132 and I am getting 4-6 locks inside and 6-9 outside with all my data blocked. when I turn my gps on it looks like it is connecting to the data but no data connect bubble shows up and it goes away after a few seconds. no data shows up on my bill and if it did i would pitch a fit cause i have the data block on it. and I use verizon. I also have radio 3.42.50 (the latest from Bell), PRL 51248, and ROM 3.08.666.1

I don't know how to do the things you did. When I try to use my GPS it try's to access data and then I get an error message because I have the data block. I have upgraded to Window's Moblie 6.1 with the Valhalla Legends GPS Server fix but since I did the data block I cannot use my GPS. I am unfamilure with the things you mentioned above. Whenever I try to change my IP server it defaults back to Verizon Wireless. I even tried to delete the Verizon IP but it resets itself. Last edited by BudVen; 02-09-2009 at 07:52 PM. |
