Data block disables GPS

It appears that if you block data in the VX6900 it disables the GPS. Have you found this to be true on the Verizon network? I have this phone with Window Mobile 6.1 and the Valhalla Legends GPS Server fix but with data block my GPS will not work.

Yup, GPS uses data. No other way around it.

Re: Data block disables GPS

I have an app. ,GPSToggle, that simply turns the GPS on and off. Whenever I turn the GPS on it tries to access data. I am not trying to access Verizon for the GPS just simply turn on the GPS chip.

I also have GPSToday, another nice application that I can no longer use. I reallly don't need to access the internet so I guess I'll just have to do without. I do wish I could get it working though.

Re: Data block disables GPS

Hate that it requires data. Hope theres a way to make it work without the data plan eventually.

Re: Data block disables GPS

My GPS works just fine without data the GPS works non assisted. It takes longer to lock and doesnt work so well in rough weather but it still works. I am runnign GPS mode 2 in my registry. Now im not on the MR1 update so that might make a difference.

Re: Data block disables GPS

I am running on mode 2 also in my registry and my server IP for qpst and registry is 66.174.95.132 and I am getting 4-6 locks inside and 6-9 outside with all my data blocked. when I turn my gps on it looks like it is connecting to the data but no data connect bubble shows up and it goes away after a few seconds. no data shows up on my bill and if it did i would pitch a fit cause i have the data block on it. and I use verizon. I also have radio 3.42.50 (the latest from Bell), PRL 51248, and ROM 3.08.666.1

I don't know how to do the things you did. When I try to use my GPS it try's to access data and then I get an error message because I have the data block. I have upgraded to Window's Moblie 6.1 with the Valhalla Legends GPS Server fix but since I did the data block I cannot use my GPS. I am unfamilure with the things you mentioned above. Whenever I try to change my IP server it defaults back to Verizon Wireless. I even tried to delete the Verizon IP but it resets itself.

Re: Data block disables GPS

go here this is what I did to get my gps working with data blocked on verizon.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=53561&page=2 obviously if you have already upgraded the radio no need to do it again. but if you haven't I strongly suggest you do but find a program to backup all of your data because you will be flashing your phone. like I said this is the exact way I did my phone it may or may not work for you use at your own risk.
