Re: custom roms

just about any clean ROM can do this for you just install and do not allow the carrier customizations to run (by soft resetting before they do) then install dcd carrier .cabs for bell....http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...336#post716336

a better solution would be to have a separate cab with internet sharing and
Bell tweaks to be installed on top of the Bell`s stock rom ..

Re: custom roms

Any internet sharring .cab that is avaiable on the site is compatiable with the Bell ROM...As for the tweaks you are referring to its limited to what you can really do, reg edits are where most of your tweaks will come from, these come in .cab form (most of them) but they can be cooked into custom ROM's and this will make everything so much easier.

But there is a (super).cab floating around here some where with alot of the tweaks that help the performance on your device...if I find it I'll link you!!!

what I mean is that according to those cabs one does not even need a cab,
it seems that enabling internet sharing
just amounts to a couple of regedits:

1--------------------(removes some spyware dll installed by provider)
InternetSharing WM 6.1:
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Then Delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll"

2--------------------- and this one tells which connection to use?

- <characteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\InternetSharing">
<parm name="LastCellConnection" value="Sprint PCS" datatype="string" />

</characteristic>

- <characteristic type="HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings">
<parm name="ForceCellConnection" value="Sprint PCS" datatype="string" />

______________________________________________-

is this all needed?
with Bell, we do not have "Sprint PCS" entry, but "Data Network" instead
Should one replace the former with the latter?

Re: custom roms

P.S. Also Bell does not have "Internet sharing"
it has "Wireless Modem" under "Comm manager"
Is this the same program named differently?

I've searched for those .cabs but their all for sprint, dont know if they would actually work for bell because some of the registry changes that are made say "sprint pcs" and so on. thats why i'm worried to use them.

My point was "sorry if I wasn't clear", this is the reason it is easier to just flash a Custom ROM, on several levels it makes more sense...

1. everything that you are looking for is built in

2. less searching gives you more time to learn more about other things with your device

3. you have the support thread of the ROM to ask questions where plenty of people are willing to help including the chef

4. its just plain easier and less of a hastle...

To big sexy take a look at this ROM semi clean and still has customizations to play with, its simple and stable http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...light=Bell+ROM

well.. let me disagree..
after some thought, it does NOT (make more sense)

custom ROMs (and I do not depreciate them at all) are good for enthusiasts who experiment with their cellphones on everyday basis.
(and for those who have a more or less qualified impression what`s inside)

An average user (me, for example ) wants a set of stable
features, that he/she completely trusts...

trust to the features provides by carrier is supported by the warranty etc..

for me, trust in the absence of warranty (this is how it happens in custom ROMs), means understanding how it works...

thats why `I`d prefer a cab..

This is what i am interested in as well, do we still replace some of the registry entries with sprint pcs?
