I don't have any alarm apps installed. I occasionally use the built in alarm, but normally it is not enabled.

Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself to "10 seconds"

Probably a moot point since Regression doesn't use an alarm; however, mine is pTravelAlarm.

Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself to "10 seconds"

I heard back from Sprite. They suggested making this change:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel key to 0 (zero).

Mine was already set to 0. I did a backup last night and the time out did not get changed. Searching around for BackLight LockLevel, I see lots of others have had this problem. Some solutions worked for some but did not work for others.

I guess I'll just chalk this up as a Windows Mobile "feature".

Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself to "10 seconds"

Glad you found it. My very first post was about this issue back in the Apache days.

My Lock Level was at "3." I just changed it to zero and will let you know in a day or 2 if it fixed the problem.

Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself to "10 seconds"

Changing the Lock Level didn't work. I change it and it stays for a little while then it reverts back to zero and my phone goes back to the 10-second backlight.

Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself to "10 seconds"

Here's something I just realized.

I went into settings and removed the check mark from the "Battery Power" tab. I would think that by removing the check mark, my back light would now stay on 24/7 until my batter dies but what really happens is that after one minute of inactivity, the screen goes dark. There is no dimming effect, it just goes from on to off after a minute of inactivity. Not perfect but I can deal with 1 minute much better than I can 10 seconds.
This post has been thanked 1 times.

Me too. Mine's been going into sleep mode after about 58-59 seconds of inactivity on battery power, no matter whether checked or unchecked, nor what time out setting - trying only # of minutes, too scared to try seconds! External power works as set, i.e. unchecked. It didn't used to be so stubborn until I installed the 3.03.651.4 ROM, i.e. the official Sprint update to WM v6.1 and Rev A. The early leak ROM (with same # except having 2 after last decimal) behaved nicely, as set, and reacting correctly to changes in settings. I wonder if it's possible to flash backwards?

A solution! Re: Backlight keeps resetting itself

Not willing to try flashing back or anything so drastic, I sort of tabled this annoyance awhile. Then, just the other day, I remembered about a different way to adjust backlight sleep settings. Instead of directly changing registry value(s), and instead of going through backlight settings, I tried going through battery settings. And it worked!

Try this: Tap the battery icon near top right of today screen. Next, tap bottom left softkey Menu, and choose Backlight. It looks as if it's just a different shortcut to the same exact thing that's been failing, but for whatever reason, this way works for me. Maybe because of something else?
