Exclamation Tethering question

I can currently tether without a problem. Everything works fine. I just have one question though. Is it "normal" for the phone to lose the internet connection after about every 3 to 5 minutes? It seems to disconnect itself and I have to click on the connect button again to get it tethered back up. This is getting rather annoying to say the least. I am not sure what the problem is, or if there is even a solution for this.

If anyone knows how to get this to stop it would be great.

Thanks

Re: Tethering question

I have no problems tethering mine, except when I had just installed the ICS app itself and had not reflashed it... I found out that there is however some file somewhere or registry entry that alerts the carrier-- Maybe you have that entry?

Have you reflashed it with a completely new ROM? I've used OMJ's ROMs for some time and had no problem with it, as it is built in and he has a nice clean ROM and a nice customized one as well... Both with it built in and no problems whatsoever.

Heck, if I can use it with Linux it must work... Use PIM Backup to save all your info onto a microSD card and then try reflashing it, it may help... Or just soft-reset the thing, one time after I kept trying to connect I called and asked what the hell was going on and they were like "did you reboot?" and I was like uh, no, I completely forgot about that step and it worked perfectly afterwards...

Let me know if this helps at all. I'll try to get you a link to the entry that ****s **** up.

Re: Tethering question

I really hate to reflash my phone seeing as how I just got it the way I want it with programs like Garmin and such. I am not sure what else to try. It seems to disconnect on me about every 5 minutes or so. This is getting very frustrating seeing as how this is my only internet connection I have.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Tethering question

use NFSFANS rom. it is made so that the provider cant notice when you tether with the phone.

look it up. I use NFSFAN's BELL 1.23 ROM.

Re: Tethering question

Is that the problem? CricKet can tell when I tether? I wouldn't think that it would matter with CricKet. I am not sure what else to try at this point though.

Re: Tethering question

Surely someone must have had this trouble before and figured out a solution other than to reflash their phone.

Re: Tethering question

see if your phone is going into sleep mode. if you installed s2u then have it stay on (battery charge mode) when tethered otherwise find the setting that keeps phone from nodding off when tethered. i noticed same problem in past but cant remember exactly what I did. it definitely was that the phone was going into sleep mode and lost connection to the pc. it was a real easy fix. no reflashing needed for me to fix this prob. may need to check activesync settings or phone settings but it should be easy to resolve.

The only setting I could find that I thought might be it was on the phone itself. I went to Start/Settings/System/Power/Advanced and removed the checks in both boxes. (Turn off device is not used for __ minutes) for both battery and external power, but it still seems to want to disconnect after about 10 minutes or so. Not sure what else to try at this point.

Re: Tethering question

I still think its a sleeping phone issue and activesync. My xp machine has no problem with a sleeping phone but my vista machine freaks out and disconnects me as soon as my phone nods off. I have slide to unlock installed and it stays on when connected to the vista machine and the problem is resoved. periodically it sleeps on the vista machine and gets knocked off tether.

Try this. next time it disconnects itself, hit the wakeup button on the phone and see if active sync and/or the winmob software reacts to try to reconnect to your phone. thats what mine does when it nods off on vista.

I am using XP and didn't figure I would have this much trouble..lol. This may sound like a dumb question, where is the wakeup button on the phone located?

I appreciate all your help.
