Re: Tethering question

no such thing as a dumb question.

in the settings section there are two that may control it. the "power" area and the "backlight". I have so much crap on my phone I dont know what controls the sleep mode anymore. slide to unlock is what i think is in control most but i got a bunch of battery crap that conflicts it. i think i need a hard reset to start over. you may need one too if you get too stalled troubleshooting this.

on xp you should not have this problem. check your activesync connections. i assume your tether is controlled by activesync? i dont see anything on activesync that could be booting you off. on xp you only need activesync so dont use that other microsoft software that you have to use with vista. it may be that other software (windows mobile something?) that is crapping you out on xp. i have to use that one for my vista machine and that is where i get booted off.

Re: Tethering question

What are you using to tether? I was having issues with PDAnet dropping after 5 minutes or so, but when I used the built-in ics, the dropping stopped.

I am using the built in Internet Sharing.

PC Connection: USB
Network Connection: Cricket Mobile Web

I am wondering, would it help if I use a serperate internet connection just to tether with? What I mean is should I make another internet connection in the settings to only use to tether?

Other than that I am at a total loss here.

Re: Tethering question

Not sure, I had the same problem and it was simply a bad usb cord that seemed fine but really wasn't, even though it never gave me a problem at all using just Activesync it would do that while tethering.

A new cord solved it, until then you might want to try seating the cord in the phone all the way then pull it back out a tiny tiny bit, barely at all, that worked for me.

It could also be the usb connector in the phone itself going bad.

I don't have any experience with cricket roms but you could always flash a different rom just to see if it affects it at all too.
