Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

I just got a sprint touch about a week ago and the first thing i did when i got it was to upgrade the Rom to 3.03.651.4 and get the unlimited data plan from sprint. I haven't have any issues with the phone and I haven't done any reg edits but I seem to have a problem with my data connection. Whenever I receive or place a call I get disconnected from my data services and they usually come back after the call is over. I contacted support and they told me this was normal and that some phones do it and others do not. Is this a normal issue? Or is there something I can do to fix this issue? I tried searching the forums but I only find info on suspending the data connection to save battery life. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

Normal. The 6.1 ROM is set that way. It's either calls or data. I have had calls not go through sometimes and get sent to voicemail when I'm using data, but it's hit or miss. Sometimes the call gets through.

Re: Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

The information is even available on the HTC site itself... Data and Voice utilize the same signal therefor you must end your data call to use the voice feature and vice versa.

Not sure about the customer support person to whom you spoke with but they may not have been clear in the fact when they stated "some phones do that some dont" the reference may have been actually meaning some type or styles of phones do that while others do not.

Not exactly sure as I have never tested it directly myself, but the information on HTC website itself states that you will recieve a message stating to end your call to connect to a data network (in reference to people tethering their phones for internet access for their PC's and laptops
)

Would love to know of a way myself to share the same data/voice signal simultaniously but unsure it can be done

Re: Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

I figured he meant other phones as well. I was hoping maybe a past Rom was capable of keeping the data active during a call. Thanks for the responses guys.

Re: Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

Is the limitation because of WM 6, or HTC, or EVDO? Simultaneous data/voice worked fine on my Motorola e815 on VERIZON network.

Re: Data services disconnects when placing or taking a call

EV Data Only.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution-Data_Optimized

They thought it sounded negative, so they renamed it "Data Optimized" but it really means ONLY. So, when you want voice, it switches to 1x, which NEVER supported simultaneous voice/data, and all your data goes bye bye.
