xv6900 rev-a/gps upgrade help (using ubuntu)
Hello everyone. I have been reading for hours but am unable to find good documentation to upgrade the radio on my vzw xv6900 using a linux computer. I am simply trying to upgrade the radio and GPS. I am not interested in any custom roms/themes/cubes/etc.
1. I am using Linux Ubuntu Hardy 8, and a program called HTCFlasher which allows me to flash in the .nbh file. 2. I downloaded this sprint rom (from Jim2561): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9KGYNEWO 3. I extracted the files and found 1.nbh and 2.nbh. Based on research I have determined that 1.nbh is the radio upgrade I am looking for. 4. I entered the phone to bootloader mode (cam+pwr+reset), and flashed in 1.nbh using HTCFlasher. It was succesful, and continued to reset. 5. After booting, I found NO noticable change. the Radio and Rom version appeared to be the same (1.6.3). I am hesitant to try flashing in 2.nbh because my guess is that it will overwrite my verizon rom with a sprint rom which will probably screw everything up. Any help? -Jake ps. please do not recommend I use WINE to run any windows based programs. It simply does not work well with the USB. HTCFlasher is a great program that runs natively in linux. I think I just need to know where to get a good .nbh file for my radio. Last edited by unsungboxer; 10-04-2008 at 03:26 PM. |

Re: xv6900 rev-a/gps upgrade help (using ubuntu)
ok I am going to continue documentation as I am determined to figure this out. I am sure there are others out there w/o windows who wanna upgrade thier phones.
I have read a nice walk through for flashing the xv6900 here: http://www.atwistedweb.com/xv6900/index.html#unlock Jim's flashing how to page: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473 ImCokeMan's unlocker page: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370 Unbricking the vogue: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24906 I think I am getting closer. Keep in mind I cannot use imcokeman's .exe file. Instead I downloaded an extracted .nbh file from the above unbricking page. I renamed it voguimg.nbh, put it on my sdcard, entered boot loader. It said loading for 5 minutes at which point i reset my phone (hoping that it is now unlocked). I then downloaded and extracted the voguimg.nbh from the alltel rom, and attempted to run it off of my sdcard. it still gives me the 0028002 Not Allowed. On the bootloader screen it says SPL-0.36.0000 which tells me that the unlock never worked. It seems my biggest struggle is getting the SPL unlocked to where it should read 2.31.coke |

Re: xv6900 rev-a/gps upgrade help (using ubuntu)
Good news and bad news:
Good news Good news is I have flashed my phone using the ImCokeman's unlocker and the alltel rom, My phone is now rev-a and GPS capable. Which really the only reason I care is that its a requirement for DZO's android linux port over at xda developers. Bad news: I was not able to complete the process from my linux box only. ImCokeman's unlocker was only successful for me from a Windows XP install. The worste part of this whole thing is that I have tainted my computer with a windows XP partition. For those of you who love linux, you know how ashamed I am to give in to M$. The other downside is my phone has the alltel bootscreen/menu/etc. Oh well, by the time we get android firmware working it will ovewrite winmo anyways. In case you were interested, the link I first posted ( http://www.atwistedweb.com/xv6900/index.html#unlock ) is a very nice walkthru and worked without a hitch.... from xp :P |
