Screen turns on between EVDO and 1x

I have an Airave, which is working great, but there is still one problem.
1 bar of EVDO (from the towers) trumps 5 bars of 1x (from the Airave). My EVDO reception is spotty, which is why I have the Airave, so I go between EVDO and 1x all the time.

The problem is when the phone jumps between the two, the screen turns on. I can lock the screen to prevent unwanted button pressing, but having the screen on and off all day can really kill my battery. It’s also annoying because I anticipate a call or text when the screen turns on.

So does anyone know how to prevent the screen in Windows Mobile from turning on between EVDO and 1x (both from Sprint)?

If you don't need EVDO at all, I believe there's a hidden menu you can use to change it to 1X only. I'll try to find it somewhere. I think its a registry entry, then a page will show up in the Phone Options.

although disabling EVDO would work, the internet will be slow as hell, so unless you don't get much EVDO to begin with...

I get great EVDO, except at my house.

Ideally, I'd like to find a setting/way in Windows Mobile to prevent the screen from turning on when it switches between the two.

that awkward i just checked my phone and it doesnt do that...but like the only way to stop that is to change you mode to 1x only.... its a reg edit that you do ill get the exact place in a littlle bit

I had the same problem with my Treo 800w and wife's Q9C. It basically forced me to return the Phones/Airave and cancel my service. Thinking I had a call was annoying, but getting 4 - 6 hours of battery life when barely using the devices was completely unacceptable.

The bad part is that I had to move over to US Cellular. They have a great signal at my house but no EVDO. My battery life is great now though. I kinda wish I had tried the disabling EVDO thing first on Sprint to see if it made a difference.

I occasionally miss EVDO, but always appreciate my new found battery life.

I had the problem with my Treo as well, but it's not caused by the Airave. In poor reception areas (both my house and work) the screen flips on all the time.

the poor battery life is probably more related to the radio doing its thing (whatever switching and searching involves) than it is to the screen switching on and off. i'm sure you already have the screen set to switch back off after a short time.

Yeah, I agree that it is more likely the radio doing it's thing that kills the battery than the screen.

The part that bothered me the most was that the reason I bought and paid a monthly fee for the Airave was to eliminate the coverage problem. Prior to getting the Airave, the signal was bad and I missed some calls, but my battery was OK. After getting the Airave, by signal was good and calls were crystal clear, but my battery was horrible.

I do think it is an issue with the phone toggling back and forth between the Airave and the tower that ate my battery.

I am betting if I had no coverage at my house, I would not have had the issue though. I think I had just enough to cause a problem.
