Your right. If that guy really does work for Alltel and does the training like he said he does, then it should have the GPS update as he says. If that is true it would appear that training has really not been around to all the techs at Alltel, and probibly why they delayed posting it. That makes complete sense but also p*sses me off. They should have at least heard rumer of GPS on the Touch since Sprint put it on their's. I don't know if its ignorance or just Borg like... They said not to tell, so it doesn't exist, even though tomarrow, the world will know, and our competitors already have it.
Sorry for this rant, just having other issues with refurb Touches I have been getting from Alltel... as it has nothing to do with the subject of update 6.1, or GPS, I will post it else where and edit this post with a link just so its easy to find for anyone who cares.

WOW! its 9/08 and this thing was supposed to be out like a week ago, i would just forget about it the diamond will prob be out before it.

Yeah, you probably got that right! I'm going to have to scrounge up some money and just buy the Diamond.

Is it just me, or is the Alltel HTC Touch site where the 6.1 upgrade should be(!) messed up? the links are vertical and not the pictures as they once were? I am using Firefox so it may just be me, but as Firefox is the only browser I use and it was right yesterday, I really don't think it is. Maybe they tried adding the upgrade and messed it up? I have refreshed the page a few times and it still has issues.
Waiting for 6.1 is really starting to p*ss me off. I was forcing my self to be patient before but now this delay is just getting ridicules. At the very least they should announce they it will be out soon and why they have delayed it this long. If they did that I wouldn't be so frustrated about it.

EDIT:
I just went back to the page and it appears ok now... not sure if it was my browser or the HTC web guys playing around.

Just called Alltel. Girl said in the system it shows no release date. But she has heard rumors of it being,... get this,.. drum role please.... and I quote,....
"soon". take from it as you will, but from the sounds of it, it will be released "soon",...
And just to make this information even more juicy, she said it was supposed to be released back in,... April. I think some one is sitting on their hands, with BOTH thumbs up their bu*t. At least I know I can type HTML faster to post a link for a download then these guys can as its been 5 months since April. I think the plan is to release the upgrade after the warranty on our touches have ran out so when we upgrade the phone, it will brick and we will be forced to buy a new phone.

Yeah, I definitely want that phone. Probably won't even be out for another year, that is, if it comes to the US at all. I'd just like an Alltel Diamond.

Anyway, I have a challenge for you, just because I can't do it right now because I'm in a college class lol. Call Alltel again, just so you talk to someone different and get a different answer/opinion. And then call HTC a couple times and ask the same questions and then report back with the results!

That's funny because I was bored at work yesterday and called Alltel also to inquire about the release of 6.1. The girl I talked to wanted to know where I heard about 6.1 for Alltel, so I told her from various websites and from the windows mobile website. She put me on hold for a few min, came back and said exactly the same thing.....'soon'.

Didn't have a specific date or anything but that it is a work-in-progress. Wonder if we talked to the same girl??? lol

are you talking to the customer rep. or tech support? also advanced tech support is going to be the one to talk to and they will have a lot better answer about the update.
