Help Me! My gps NEVER locks!

Hi there,

I've read countless threads.. and flashed my vogue countless times. I've never ever gotten a GPS lock.

I've tried OMJ's, Ghettofreeryder's, RMLC, NSFAN's.. etc. All to no avail. I am on Bell Mobility and I'm using the 3.42 radio and the 1.33 PRI. I'm on Bell Mobility.

My phone and internet connection all work fine.. but no GPS. When I use GPS Viewer, I get a bunch of satellites in the bottom, outlined in red. They all appear to be coming from the north for some reason.. And no matter how long I leave it outside, the phone never gets a lock.

I have also tried running the PPST file from NSFAN's rom, doesn't help.

Anyone run into a situation like this? Any suggestions??

Thanks!!

Just out of curiosity how many times has your phone been flashed? A ball park, 1-50, 50-100, 100-200+?

Whats the signal strenth of those satellites you see? I've had times when I had 6 or 7 weak satellites and it never locks. But on a normal day I have 3 strong satellites and it locks in a minute.

Umm not that many times. I'd say probably 20-25 times.

I'm not sure how you can tell the signal strength.. if it's the number in the red outline, then it's usually 20-30. I've had as many as 12 of them, with no lock. They all appear to be in the north too.

I need some more info, how many radios versions did you flash? which different versions ? and did you do any downgrades/upgrades of radio. Or have you downgraded bootloader then gone back up?

Sorry, I didn't even set up my email yet on the phone.. so that solution doesn't apply for me. I double checked by restarting the phone and then going to GPS viewer right away.. no dice.

Thanks, but see above. Doesn't really apply to me unfortunately.

Yeah I used several different radio versions. I tried the 3.37 and now the 3.42. I went up to 3.37 first, and then back down to my original bell rom (via the 0.36 bootloader thing, as described in the sticky on the first page). And then went back to 3.37 and then 3.42 i think.

I did make a mistake in that i let the alltel customizations run the first time i flashed the phone. After that, my internet stopped working. But I followed the steps to downgrade back to my stock bell rom, and the internet started working again. And then I went back up via the coke bootloader into 3.37 and then 3.42.

Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

The solution doesnt mean you have to fix your Push Mail, rather, you gotta find out if any program you are using is set up to use a Data Connection Automatically. It doesnt necessarily mean you are using an email program that check automatically if you have any email. It means, you can be using a program that checks sports updates automatically (ie: Pocket Sportscenter), maybe a weather program that is checking for weather updates constantly (does not apply to HTC Weather from what I have experienced since it wont update unless you click on the weather icon), or anything along the lines if you know what I mean.

One person fixed his problems by disabling the Automatic Updates on his Seven program that checks his email. It wasnt even Windows Live but another email program. So, the point is, if you have something connecting to the internet automatically usind Data Connection, it will interfere with you GPS system on your phone, more precisely, you AGPS portion of GPS which requires a Data Connection to get coordinates.

For some reason this problem started with this New Official ROM because it wasnt present with the previous Leaked ROM.

Re: Help Me! My gps NEVER locks!

Exactly, pushmail is doing it for those with pushmail enabled. But it would be anything that makes your phone have a always on data connection. Trust me, if you reset your ppc and it boots up completely and it does not have a data connection then it gets a gps really fast. (under 12 seconds)
