Potential touch owner questions

thinking about touch for sprint. I have a couple of questions for you touch owners.

-theres a lot of negative comments as to lag on the device.... i tried the display model at the store today and noticed i could enter phone numbers faster than the phone could keep up, i could also enter text faster than the phone.... is this normal?

-How well does it sync up to Outlook?

-I can't seem to get a straight answer on if the new OS effectively enabled GPS... Is there any definative answer on this yet?

-I'll be stopping by the Sprint store tomorow to possibly pick mine up. Is there anything i should check for? like common defects to check for... or version of the phone?

-I'd also like to make sure its an absolutely unused, untouched, undemoed phone, I've heard some people complain about cell companies trying to pass off used or refurbished phones as new to customers. Would you have any tips to avoid this?

-And most importantly.... after a long time of hard usage does the touchscreen still respond well?

I'd appreciate any help you guys could offer before throwing down the cash on this purchase.

Re: Potential touch owner questions

I've had the Touch from Sprint since April and I love it. Exchange push works great and with the new ROM and GPS it's even better. I travel a lot and now I can get a rental car w/o having to pay extra for GPS. I do recommend getting the SPB full screen keyboard, it makes entering text sooo much easier, I have it assigned to my camera button (changed camera to long press). Data speeds with Rev. A are also awesome, I tether occasionally (after I applied the reg. fix to allow 6.1 to use Sprint instead of PAM). It's nice when you're in an airport that doesn't have free wireless.

Re: Potential touch owner questions

i bought the touch, a few months later i replaced it with the treo 700wx, to be honest i hated the treo it was just garbage, so i am back now with the touch. once you get the touch you'll love it, its great and highly customisable thanks to the intelligent folks on this forum.

Re: Potential touch owner questions

It can be both your best friend and your worse enemy sometimes, lol. All in all I love and I'm having a hard time debating between the new Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. From the images I've seen the Touch Pro is THICK as hell and I can't deal with that. As long as the Diamond doesn't have the issues I've seen with the GSM version then I'll be upgrading to that.

The Touch though by far is the best phone Sprint has in my honest opinion.

Re: Potential touch owner questions

The touch seems like I good phone, I am also going to be receiving my Touch this week, replacing my mogul. Only thing is that I heard the GPS is flaky, some times it works, sometimes it doesn't. My friend just got his touch, and the that is how his GPS is. I know that turning off the sound on the dialer will make it run faster, but doesn't that make it so you can't dial a number to things like automated machines, such as when you are trying to call sprint, and it says press 1 for English (I thought I read this somewhere, not sure if it is true).

I can tell you that it's not true since I called and had a fight with them this morning, lol. It just turns off the sound you hear that lets you know you pressed a button. I have never had a problem accessing any automated systems at all with it turned off.

I flashed to the new rom as soon as it was posted last week and I haven't had any GPS issues. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones in that aspect.

Re: Potential touch owner questions

You're right -- I also thought the button sounds were needed (to access my answering machines messages). I just tried it and it worked with them turned off. Thank you.
