Re: What is the reason for terrible GPS performance on the Vogue?

I'm using the "Almost Stock" 3.02 ROM with very fast locks. If I don't get a lock within 20-30 seconds, it usually won't lock at all. I've found that I can consistently "crash" the GPS using GPSToday in auto update mode. I've concluded from my use, that the GPS problems I experience seem to be from power management. If I'm diligent about stopping the GPS before putting the device in standby, I'm better off.

I've never looked into the different power management modes, but it seems that if I briefly power off the device with GPS active, it will recover and re-lock the GPS signal quickly after powering on. If I leave the device powered off for a longer period of time, the GPS will crash and only recover after a soft-reset.

Somebody else give this a shot and see what happens please.
I'm about to test this... I am running the new radio/stock Sprint ROM, and my GPS worked GREAT for the first two days, then slowed down, and now---it doesn't work whatsoever... I tried re-running PPST.exe, but still no luck... resetting the device does no good...

I'll let you know if the location setting does the trick...

Re: What is the reason for terrible GPS performance on the Vogue?

Well, I reset the location feature, and I got no lock...

then I soft-reset, and it took a whole minute to get a lock, and I'm only getting four satellites...

I'm going to upgrade to the NEW NEW leaked offical ROM from the 10th, and see what happens...

Re: What is the reason for terrible GPS performance on the Vogue?

i dont understand why anyone would say that the GPS is terrible :-\ i get locks in under 10 seconds every time no matter what. and it always places me within 10 feet of where i really am. which is pretty good if you ask me.

I think everyone would agree that thats good, but That is not everybody's experience with the gps. Mine usually takes several minutes to lock.

Re: What is the reason for terrible GPS performance on the Vogue?

I get 10 sats with GMaps within 15 seconds outdoors, and 5-7 indoors within 30 seconds. (on 7/10 leaked ROM)
Live search seems to take about the same from cold start (after hard power off).
Could not get iGo to go with GoogleMaps as a primer for some reason initially, but with AstroLauncher, goes like bat out of you know where.
Does drain that battery though.

I just installed the 7/10 leaked ROM yesterday at 2PM, and by 7 or 9PM, I lost all GPS usage... I didn't do anything weird like let the device power off during a GPS session... I literally only used it to get 3 static (non-moving) locks under google maps, to find stuff around me. Didn't touch GPS until I needed it later that night, and it was dead. Couldn't get it to work with soft-reset either.

I was trying it in the bottom floor of an apartment complex, where it SHOULD work anyways... so I walked outside with a clear view of the sky, and it still wouldn't work.

I think part of the GPS problem is that if you don't get a lock, (say you're in a bad location,) it sets some weird flag in the radio...

I have found a "fix," for this... from the leaked 7/10 Sprint ROM thread... all you have to do is re-run IOTA for Sprint.... and somehow this gets GPS working again... I wonder how long it will work before I have to do it again?
