Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

(those who know me from HoFo, know that I hate to make a post like this.. but...)

Ok, kind of new to this windows mobile hacking thing... cooked roms, alternate radio code, etc...

I do understand the differences between the ROM and radio code part.

I would like to put just the newer Radiocode on my VZW VX6900 in order to get better reception, and hold calls better. At this point, I'm not worried about WM 6.1, GPS, faster, etc.. I just want better signal strength.

is there a way to keep the stock verizon rom, but use this newer sprint radio code to get the better reception? If so, how is that done?

If I have to use the entire sprint rom/radio code that was just posted... are there easier to follow guides to make it all work on Verizon? (The ones I've read appear to be for cooked roms, or mix the instructions between VZW, Bell, Alltel, etc.. that makes it difficult for me to extract only the info needed for VZW.)

thanks.

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

Well, well, well, look who's coming over to the "dark side,..."
=D> =D> =D>

So good to see you!! You were my inspiration when I was hacking all of my Moto RZRs (K1m back to 710)

The drivers are the biggest issue,... so I'd hesitate to say that you wouldn't see any anomalies if you tried it. There is a "Stock ROM" in the stickies of Stock ROMs.

If I were going to try it (which I'm not - because I want the GPS and Rev A capabilities - THEY ROCK), I would:

1. Flash the new released Stock Sprint ROM. You need not load an unlocker yet,... tap the screen and go all the way to were it will say loading customization 3,2,1,... BEFORE it gets to 1!! do a reset

2. Load an unlocker,... now, since you are trying to stay STOCK, I'd read that stickied thread on "Dangers of downgrading an SPL,..." to make certain I was chosing the right unlocker for my ROM. I'm not clear if you need 2.31 or .40 if you have new radio and old ROM,... it's kinda uncharted territory, because most of us took the radio first and needed 2.31 to do it,...

3. If you went back to stock ROM you should be good to go,... I personally wouldn't go that route,...

4. If you move on to another ROM - JD's Hybrid is good, OMJ's is a bit more "Stock Looking" with all the HTC stuff,... If you want drivers and stick to as close to stock as possible, I'd recommend DCD's ROM:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=216

5. Finally, the only real "hassle" we have as VzW users is the MMS & SMS,...this thread is a really good start:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30109

there are others too that are helpful and I would encourage you to experiment a bit,... NexVision is a ROM Chef and he's VzW,... so his are a fairly easy entry into custom cooked ROMs.

I have successfully and very satisfactorily done the following:
-Upgraded to the Official (from the unofficial) Radio ROM. Am receiving much better signal strength and stability in call and signal strength.
-Upgraded to VetVito's Schwartz1. Which is perhaps the "thinnest" FAST ROM I could find,... with the dialer that works and looks very nice.
-Skinned my phone with WAD2 and WA3 Torx iPhone theme. Absolutely love it - thanks Torx!!
-Loaded up the Holux GPS Viewer and LiveSearch and Google Maps,... 5 Sat lock in 16 seconds!! Wooo Hooo!!

Time to get back to real work,... this stuff is too fun!!

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

Radio upgrade worked for me too. It did fail the first time but a second attempt worked fine (I also used a different PC for that attempt not that it shoud have mattered). on OMJ's rom. However doesn't seem my GPS has been any better. Guess I'll wait for him to update his rom to see if there is any difference.

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

I just completed the flash to the new sprint then back to the Vogue 3.02 in the kitchen. My GPS still locks very slowly...I haven't seemed to escape that issue yet.

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

Has anyone done a regedit to change it to mode 2? I did that a while back and ever since mine has been lightning fast,... perhaps it's a location thing too,... I'm in Southern GA.

So this is not right out of standby, you have to do a long lock first right?
I let mine lock for an hour or so. Ever since its been working pretty good. Maybe i had to "break it in" lol. Havent had any standby issues yet. works every time so far crossing my fingers though
