New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

Should I bother flashing to the new sprint radio(no customisations)? Will this improve GPS etc. even without the PPST stuff?

Can any verizon users that did this share their experiences?

Thanks

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

With the new rom+radio, I can see a significant improvement to the gps. The device is also quicker. After I flashed it this morning, I got 7 satellites with a lock on four. Inside where I could only see 3 before.

The radio should help, then you can flash back to OMJ's rom, or give him a couple days to come out with a newer version based off this rom.

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

I'm on Verizon and had the previous radio/ROM. I'm in a fringe area and my connection would "bounce" from 1x to EV and I'd be talking with 1 to no bars. Stock radio ROM didn't seem to do this,...

So far, this one is giving me good reception,... but it's way too soon to tell.

I run Vet's ROMs so this is Schwartz1 that I'm putting on now,... have to get my MMS and stuff back first. and then I'll mess with GPS.

Re: New shipped sprint radio for Verizon?

I put the new radio on mine and the reception does seem better than the previous radio. I have a few areas in my room that can get a little static, but all calls in that room have been completely clear so far. I did a couple GPS tests and it's locking on FAST! The initial first lock took about a minute, but after it locked on it was already seeing 5 sats right away in my house. Did a soft reset just curious to see how quick it would lock on again after restarting my phone and holy ****, I got 5 sats about 10 seconds after starting up Google Maps.

Can't wait to really test the GPS out, but I'm holding off really installing programs like Garmin on my phone until the custom ROMs come out later this week for our Verizon phones so we can take full advantage of everything we can in the new Sprint ROM.

I'm suprised by vaxick's results. Maybe I'm way off, but I wouldn't think vzw users would get agps locks since we don't have verizon's PDE server ip/port. Have any other verizon users with the new sprint radio been getting locks without a clear view of the sky?

I'm also on vzw and with the radios from both the leaked Sprint rom and the new one, I get locks inside my house.

Not having aGPS does not mean you can't get a signal inside your house. Some places in your house you're not going to be able to get a signal, but other places you can.

I will report now though that my GPS isn't locking on quickly like it was for the past few hours. Could be because the sun is setting and it's having troubles inside now, but I'm not really going to test it too much until a ROM comes out later this week.

Well there still is a GPS driver issue, which i'm sure will be addressed soon enough. My signal strength in general is better. And even though it doesn't lock on as quick, I CAN confirm that My GPS has stayed locked on for the last hour. I actually locked on to 5 satellites compared to the 2-3 in other radios.

EDIT: after going out of standby for an hour, my gps locks on instantly. this has been a few times now. hope this continues

So this is not right out of standby, you have to do a long lock first right?
