I own two HTC Touch...one with service and the other without service.........the one without service which has been flashed with the "leaked Rom" I use it for GPS purpose and it works just fine.

the phone will use assisted gps without a service provider. the government provides the aGPS for 911.

aGPS= cell tower provides rough data to the phone, then the phone processes, and x-mits to server, server talks to application,, ie.. sprint navigator...
but if you'll notice step one is more of a broadcast, and that's all that these chipsets need to help lock the real gps. I paraphrased alot, but it was a winter's worth of research, while the chefs were busy with the roms... |
