I went through the same thing. I posted my issue and and pm'ed a few people and couldn't get it to work. I had insurance so I took the phone to an official Sprint service center and they swapped the phone for free no questions asked.

The following week I did the same thing again to my phone but someone had posted the unbricking procedure that same week and it worked like charm. It also helped me figure out what I was doing wrong when I was flashing. 20 flashes later and I haven't an issue since. I guess it was a worth while learning experience.

You have to be in windows to unlock.
Installing the old sprint rom and radio does not allow the device to boot into windows because of the issue discussed here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=26082
