wow every hard reset?! thats crazy i have hard reset at least 20 times never having to re authenticate.. only time i had to was with the sprint radio update so long ago.

FYI- I am still running my stock rom and have had problems with the phone in the past few weeks. I have held off trying to update because of it. I called VZW tech support and they had me do a hard reset. I was told that every time you do a hard reset on this phone you have to call tech support so they can give you the "Akey." Thought I would pass this along.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

yeah i just saw that but with verizon they bs a lot about anything some where even saying that they would never release a official gps enabler because of the fact they can charge you to use vz navigator when it comes out for wm.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

just unlock with cokemans unlocker 2.31, flash alltel's rom (dont let customization run) then flash to whatever rom you want!! thats the gist! but read the tutorials though!!!!

once you flash a verizon touch, it is very hard (if not impossible) to go back to stock! so flash knowing that!

and never try to downgrade your radio! my advice!
read, read, read everything! if your not sure ask! people are extremely cool here!

ive had moderate success with gps/rev.a, but it is also due to lack of time i have. i also had to call verizon to authenticate but its no big deal. just tell them your phone told you to call them!

dont hold your breadth waiting for verizon to release a gps/rev.a update either!
good luck!

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

OK, I'll add my experience to this thread.

I've had my xv6900 since about 3 days after it became available. I waited until all of the patching and testing was completed on the Alltel ROM to do anything.

I started out by upgrading the radio to 3.37 which came with the Alltel ROM. I think used one of the existing ROMs out there, I believe it was OMJ. Anyway, once PPCKitchen updated to include the Vogue, I've been flashing my own ROMs based on that. I followed the instructions on this thread to upgrade the radio and ROM the first time: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ighlight=safer

Now, a couple of observations. First, Verizon has NOT turned on EVDO. Rev A everywhere. By upgrading you may or may not get it depending on where you are. As for GPS, mine works fine as long as I prime it first using something like GPS Viewer. The only real issue I had with GPS was that, at first, I forgot to change the location service from 911 Only to location on under the phone settings.

As for the phone reauthorization thing. This happened to me right after I unlocked and upgraded the first time. I'm not sure whether it was the unlocking that caused it or the upgrading of the radio. All I know is that a simple call to #8899 from the phone and a few minutes is all it took to get corrected. I've flashed probably about 10 times since then getting my phone the way I want it and I've never had this issue again.

Feel free to ask anyting you want and I'll answer if I can.

Re: Verizon XV 6900 - Who's Flashed?

I flashed last weekend with success. I have been using the GPS all week without any issue. Sometimes it takes longer then others to lock which having used other BT GPS receivers is just the way it works. In regards to Rev A speeds, my speeds have varied dramatically. When its fast its fast and when its slow it sucks. This can also be a function of the phone processor as well. I am about 25 miles west of Boston. I had to call to have the phone authenticated once and it really wasn't a big deal. The bottom line is I bought the phone from them, pay for their service and can install third party software and modify the phone. They are there to help and I don't think they care if you make modifications. I just told them it crashed and when I did a hard reboot I couldn't make a call.

This was the process I followed as I described in a post under OMJ's ROM which I used:

Re: OMJ's WM6.1 Custom Touch ROM w/ UC, GPS, REV A! Updated 5/16/08
I am certainly no expert but had success following the directions on the first page of this thread as well as the two stickys:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25335

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24979

That being said, here is what I did:

First step is to tun the unlocker to unlock the phone allowing it to be flashed.

-unlock w/ ImCokeMan's v2.31 unlocker

I then ran the original sprint leaked ROM which also upgrades the radio to the necessary 3.37.15. After running the .exe when the ROM is flashed it will ask you to align the screen and enter the date and time. After which it will count down from 3 to begin provider customization. Perform a soft reboot before this customization begins to prevent the Sprint customization from running.

ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/OM..._0823_Test.exe

I finally ran OMJ's custom rom for Verizon.

ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/OM...om.Verizon.exe

The only other comments that I have is that after running it took a while for the first GPS lock with GPS viewer. After that, lock was fast. Also, I had to call VZ customer service to authenticate my phone. No big deal.

I haven't tried any of the other ROM's but I know some Verizon users have had success with some of the others. They vary by what programs they have pre-installed, the UI setup, etc.

I take no credit for any of this, it is only through the hard work of other's like OMJ, Dr. Harvey, jim2561, and many others that I had any clue or confidence to proceed.
