So I called my business rep at Verizon and he did some research and sure enough it is a known issue, and my brother is getting a new one. If you have a crack on your phone then you can call and you should be able to get a replacement free of charge.

I have attached the two pictures that he sent me. These are from Verizon.

Anyway hopes this helps!
This sure helps, I have two cracks to my case and they are opposite each other. I will definetly get my exchanged. ty

It was my understanding that Verizon was going to eat he cost of this, due to it being a known problem. Since I have no Insurance on the phone I am not sure if I will have to fight Verizon for a replacement. The phone is still under 90 days old, not sure if that matters or not.

You wont loose any abilty to have the same functionality if you used the standard OEM.

If you flashed roms though you will have to reflash and rebuild of course. You of course will also have to rebuild all the bells and whistles you had on your phone. I reccomend filing your software cabs, rars, zips etc... that you like on your sd card or pc before you send of your phone. Be sure to get all your contacts etc... backed up using pim or some other back up.

And do a hard reset to clear your personal stuff before you send. Dont forget to remove your sd card....

This all makes your rebuild easier.
Doesn't the official ROM ,make it impossible to get GPS to work with anything other then VZNav? If that is the case, I'll keep the phone and get a new case.

If you install the Valhalla cab with the new ROM you CAN use Google Maps, Live Search, etc etc with GPS.

I've tried several times; even printed out this posting and the response is "There is no known issue about this" Even though all the demo phones are cracked...They won't replace them in most cases.

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

I just noticed a small crack on my Alltel Vogue, right next to the volume slider. Has anyone ever heard of this on Sprint or Alltel versions? and is there anything I can do about it?

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Is the Alltel Vogue of yours white?

Seems that the issue is showing it's ugly face only with the case housings.

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

For what it is worth I am on my second 6900 and it has just cracked by the volume slider just like the first one did. Each got the crack after about 2 months. In addition this one is also showing the "oil spot" that can be seen when the backlight is off. I believe this is an issue with the digitizer pulling away. Both of these are purely cosmetic but now that I've had two phones show the same problems after roughly the same amount of time, I'm pretty convinced this is a manufacturing defect. I returned the first one but will probably just live with it this time around. Verizon did exchange my first one free of charge so I hope they do the same for any of you who don't want to live with these problems.

Re: Known Verizon Issue with cracked outer casing

Something else I noticed on my XV6900s before I moved to the Omnia - they both had an off-color spot on the back about 2/3rds of the way towards the top in the center. Was almost a light tan in color.

Did anyone else notice this? Maybe the case is slowly getting cooked from the inside?
