Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

Oh man, I thought I had a good screen when I initially received my touch. In all honesty, my "bad" screen isn't so bad. The vertical viewing angle when looking down at it is bad, but when do I really read the screen at some awkward angle, even in landscape?

The outside viewability was also just about what I expected as it was diminished but still functional.

However, I recently p***** a verizon store and went into to look at their touch. Huge flaw in my decision-making. The screen on the other touch is better - by far. It does not have that negative effect from ANY angle.

Long story short, I went on a crusade today to find the holy grail of touch-screenage visiting 4 Sprint stores/repair centers and looking at about 12 different touches. All 4 stores had demo touches with the bad screen and all 12 touches I looked at were identical to mine.

In retrospect, I can live with the screen I have. However, there is a certain tinge of unfairness in this whole situation with some seemingly destined with screen clarity and others, like myself, plagued with that dreaded bad screen.

Finally I have a parting question:

1. For those of you with the "good" screen and have also compared it with a "bad" one, how incredible is the difference in daytime viewability under direct sunlight? There does not seem to be consensus on this issue.

Thanks!

I had one store employee tell me my screen was bad because it had a 2 mega-pixel camera and not a 1.3 megapixel one. Just wow.

I have a mogul and an original launch Touch. The touch has the bad screen, I also have a spare unused mogul is it possible to take the screen without the digitizer from the mogul and put it in the touch? Dimensions are the same but not sure of the connectors and would like to know before disassembling.

I think you may have to head into that one with one blind eye...

Sometimes those are the ups and downs of being the first kid on the block with the newest toys. Later down the road the unit becomes much cheaper and bugs sorted out for the rest to have.. But by that time you have your eye on the next new toy, since you probably had yours 6months before others type of thing..

Anyways, my Alltell manufacturered on Xmas 25-DEC-2007 has a good screen, compared to my Sprint manufactuered in 17-JAN-2008 does not.

If I boost up the brightness on both, they are viewable under some direct Sunlight. The Alltel is a tad clearer.. But IMHO unless you are viewing them from an angle, there is no reason to feel bad for having the "bad" screen.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

vertical viewing angle becomings a big problem in landscape mode, your eyes see different colors as they are seeing the screen differently, this is a huge distracting effect. If you take turns closing your right/left eye, you can see they are seeing different colors. I should have said to watch the video first in the poll, I think a lot of people assumed they had the "good screen". The bad screen is not bad in a general sense, just extremely crappy viewing angles.

That is exactly my issue. I would live happily with it if only both eyes would see the same shade on landscape view. But no, that is not the case. This is clearly a FLAW. We ALL, need to get this replaced. Everyone saying that its fine and live with it and its not HTC or Sprints fault is clearly delusional. I did go to the 3rd store and got the same response but with a funny twist to it. the tech said its a glare film to increase the viewability under the sun. LOL! He did say that yes it does look odd in landscape view but he cant do nothing about it. I did ask politely if he can check some new Touches in stock to see if he had any with the good screen and he just gave me a deer on a headlight look. I just said to dont bother. Will search for a 4th store.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

I am having a hard time believing the numbers of the poll because of my personal experience:

Since November I have had 6 replacement Touches, all with the bad screen. I recently went to 5 Sprint stores and saw a total of 11 phones and all of them had bad screens. When I told the sales people what I was talking about all of them looked at me like I was a problem customer until I brought one from a mall store to the Verizon store and they were amazed at the difference. All he had to say was "Wow, I'm glad I got the Mogul instead of the Touch."

When I asked him if he could help me now that he's seen the difference he told me that since I have had so many replacements all he could do was some sort of "opt out" and that I could get another phone for the price it would be if I got it with a new contract.

So now my plan is to just wait it out until the Diamond comes out, sell my touch and buy the Diamond. It just really pisses me off that this phone could be a really great phone if they just made it right.

I think a lot of people just assume they have a good screen. I know i do, as i have no basis for comparison, and i can switch mine to landscape and view it with out any hindrances.

Yeah, I figured the "Good Screen" percentages are because most people just don't know, and another thing I noticed is that when you turn it to landscape mode watching Sprint TV, the gray/black channel listing kind of messes with my eyes. I really really want to like this phone but I'm having a hard time. It may be time to switch to the Mogul.

Re: Good vs Bad screens (pictures + videos of both)

For guys who are still driving around @ $4/gallon gas price, please stop wasting your time and effort on this gamble. Until now, there's no clue out for determing which one is good or which one is bad. You can't guess from the manufacture date or anything thing. Unless HTC is fully aware of this and willing to make a change, all you can do is keeping driving around and bet on next store. And I really do not think it's worth the effort.
