Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

I know there is an app for the N95 that will turn on the GPS and automagicaly geotag your pics as you take them.. Has anyone seen one for the touch yet?

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Checked registry:

HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\General
MaximalGPSInitialTime = 1800
PositionMaximalAge = 2

HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Image
GpsPrefixString = GPS
GpsSaveFolder_0409 = My POI
EnableStamp = 0

Thats the keys I found in the camera settings, not sure if the ENABLESTAMP option is for the gps tagging or not tho... at work and can't try it out right now. But based on that it seems there should be an option to have an image saved into "My POI" ( prolly have to create it yourself ) I assume with gps data stamped on the image...

I havn't looked into the new leaked Sprint ROM yet, might wanna check to see if it has the same options, or if it's running a newer camera perhaps... these are all from the no2chem/gps version of the ppckitchen.

Try setting ENABLESTAMP to 1 and see if it does something.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Hi All,

GeoTerrestrial has just released a GeoTagger add-on for the latest version of GPSToday (version 0.9.8 ). Here are the details:

1) The GeoTagger add-on can be set to automatically geo-tag (aka geocode) your device pictures as soon as they are taken.

2) The geo-location is added to your pictures' JPEG Exif data so you don't need to perform any extra steps or maintain additional pieces of data.

3) Flickr will automatically recognize the geo-location of pictures geo-tagged with GPSToday GeoTagger.

4) Flexible: You are not restricted to automatic geo-tagging with GPS location only. You can also geotag specific pictures with whatever location you want, by selecting the location on the GPSToday map.

5) Coming Soon: View your geo-tagged pictures on the map itself within GPSToday. Find pictures "near" a location, from within GPSToday.

6) To install the GeoTagger add-on, update to the latest version of GPSToday, and simply select "GeoTag Pictures" from the Map>More menu in GPSToday.

From your desktop: http://www.geoterrestrial.com
From your WM device: http://m.geoterrestrial.com

Thanks!

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

I added this fine little app to my VZW Touch. I have gotten a lock on GPS and have even tagged a photo and uploaded it to Flickr. I have tried it in an email and through Shozu.

The only problem I am seeing is Flickr is not putting it on my map. The properties on Flickr show the Lat and Lon, but unlike Shozu, it does not add it to my map.

Is this a known issue here?

Hi jackstiefel,

The default setting in Flickr is to "Hide Exif Data", which prevents it from using the geotagged info. Go into your Flickr privacy settings, and uncheck this setting. Then upload another geotagged picture, and it will show up on the map correctly. Note that pictures already uploaded before you changed the setting will not show up, only pictures uploaded AFTER you changed the setting will.

Thanks.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way for this to geotagger to work, is if you leave GPS connected? You can't just use the automatically-obtained last position?

My phone would die pretty quickly if I left this on...

ScrapMaker, that would defeat the whole purpose of the GPSToday+GeoTagger combination. Whenever you take a picture, the GeoTagger always uses the last obtained automatic position by GPSToday, as long as that fix is not too old (the time window is user-configurable).
If that fix is too old, then the GeoTagger signals GPSToday to obtain a new quickfix, which causes GPSToday to obtain a fresh fix and immediately stop the GPS. The GeoTagger then uses this fix to geotag recently taken pictures plus pictures taken in the near future.

Furthermore, even if you keep the GPS in "off" mode in GPSToday, and start the GeoTagger in automatic mode, even then you don't need to worry about manually starting the GPS. Just take a picture, which will automatically cause GPSToday to get a quickfix and geotag the picture, all without needing any user input from you, and spending the minimum possible amount of power by turning on the GPS, getting a fix, and immediately turning it off. So no worries.

Try it!

Thanks.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Is anyone using this with WM6.1? I think there's a bug with the program. After updating GPS information I'm finding that none of the phone's buttons respond. The touch screen still work, and the only way to get the buttons back is rebooting the phone.
