Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

GPSToday, great work as always.

However, I thought I might mention a little quirk. If people do a cab install, it prompts for the install directory before your popup. so, you install advice is a bit late. Just wanted to let you know.

Also, I am trying out your geotagger. However, I am not seeing the tags.

Hi colonel, we are fixing the install location advice popup issue. You might find that it works fine (pops up at the right time) if you re-install the same cab again. i.e wierd microsoft API issue.

When you say "not seeing the tags", did you use the manual geotag feature or the automatic? Just installing the geotagger is not enough, you need to make sure that you put in the right path (on both the manual and automatic screens) to where your camera stores the pictures. Also, when you start the geotagger in automatic mode, and then take a picture, you need to either have a recent GPS fix, otherwise you need to be somewhere the GPS can get a fix. If you are indoors and still want to geotag, just browse to the right location in the map, and tap on "Set as my location". This will be accepted as a current GPS fix by the geotagger. Typically a picture gets geotagged within 6-7 seconds of being taken, and the geotagger emits a low clicking sound every time it geotags something.

Also, how are you checking to see if the tags exist? Are you uploading to flickr? Did you make sure to uncheck "Hide Exif Data" in flickr privacy settings?

Thanks!

I just tried that out. Worked ok. I suppose it is something appended to the pic? It would be nicer if it would show up on the picture like a "date-time stamp"... What is available viewers/programs are available to see the additional information? Just so we know, no too much info on the website.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Yeah, I get it now. I too was thinking it was going to add a visible stamp on the photo with gps info. This would be quite nice. Perhaps for the future? I think it would be nifty to be able to choose what info as well. Some may just want the coordinates. Others may want city, state, country or even full address. Just some thoughts.

And yeah, on the install advice, its not an issue. I actually build your apps into the rom instead of installing from a cab.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

I just tested out GPSToday with Geotagger addon and it works great! Then installed a free program called ShoZu from www.shozu.com and all pictures taken from my camera are geotagged and uploaded to my flickr account within seconds!
I wish GPSToday would have the functionality to upload my pics to flickr, that would be sweet.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

Wow, I think I have discovered some sort of conflict with GPSToday, and my internal GPS (Sprint Touch/3.37.15/OMJ V2)... I also tried a few other ROMS....

if I leave the timer on "auto," it causes my GPS to stop responding after a few hours... I think it's because of the fact that nearly every time I light up my phone, I see GPSToday activate... and then a lot of times, I turn the phone off while it's still got GPS active... I think over the course of a few hours, it causes the GPS driver to stop responding... I have to soft-reset to solve this...

I uninstalled GPSToday, and the problem went away--so far... I have had no problems all day. I can pull up Google Maps and get a lock within 10 seconds no matter what...

I had this same problem on two different Vogues, so I think it's just a problem with stand-by and GPSToday..

I still use the geotagging feature though... I re-installed with the timer set to OFF, and when I take a picture, I just wait for GPS to disconnect before I turn off my phone...
This post has been thanked 1 times.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

ScrapMaker, isn't the Sprint Touch the same underlying device as the HTC-6800 (aka Vogue, aka Titan aka Mogul)?
This standby thing has been nagging users with devices built on this popular platform ever since folks figured out how to enable the hidden gps hardware, and it probably continues even with official ROM update releases. And if you dig through this and other similar forums, you will find that heavy users of GPS programs are facing it even when GPSToday is not/was never installed.
By its very nature, installing GPSToday and using it in auto-mode makes you a heavy user of GPS, hence the problems.

We have not had even a single complaint of this problem on other platforms, including those by HTC.

Re: Is there a Geotagging app for the Touch camera?

I seem to be having an issue where the the location isn't saving with the picture. What is a good way to check if it is? I have uploaded pictures to flickr and it won't add to the map. I have a GPS signal and have tried manual and auto tagging. it even makes that clicking sound. I am on a HTC Touch

They aren't the same phones, but based on similar chipsets... so that could be the problem there...

Hi dillacom,

The default setting in Flickr is to "Hide Exif Data", which prevents it from using the geotagged info. Go into your Flickr privacy settings, and uncheck this setting. Then upload another geotagged picture, and it will show up on the map correctly. Note that pictures already uploaded before you changed the setting will not show up, only pictures uploaded AFTER you changed the setting will.

Thanks
