Ok, so i have a stock battery and im pretty sure my phone was "overheating." I had fallen asleep with my touch and my macbook plugged in and tethered. (which i dont normally do) So is 100+ degrees too hot? oh and i know that it wasnt the most accurate way, but i just woke up and was freaking out at how hot my phone was. so what i did was take the battery cover off and held the probe of the thermometer up against the battery. ![]() |

Re: Longest Tether session?
I would say yes thats to hot I wouldnt let it get that hot anyways. I'm sure if it did overheat it would shutoff or you know explode!!!

Re: Longest Tether session?
Well length of tethering is a bit of a misnomer. Since the data connection is only really active when your actively transmitting/recieving data. Its one of the most efficient ways of doing it. IE you use "no" sprint resources while your reading a page your loaded. Its all digital so it instantly (for the most part) connects and disconnects as needed. So Unless you have a continuous download going your not even using the radio 100% of that time probably less than 10% of that time. BT takes so little power your not going to overheat anything using it.

anyway, even if your downloading a torrent that is 24 hours long the connection is bound to be interrupted at one point another as you switch towers or whatever, it's just invisible and reconnects quickly again and resumes.. these are computers and they don't overheat unless your operating it in an enclosed plastic bag or something. uh could you imagine the crap cell companies would get from customers if their device overheated because they used it too much? total chaos.. and when was the last time anyone posted about their phone overheated? i don't recall such issues. it's like buying a brand new car and having it break down because you drove it too far. Re: Longest Tether session?
Well THAT might cause and overheat. though 100' does not sound unsafe Stuff it in your pocket and its gonna be 98.6 in short order.
But yeah downloading a torrent is gonna keep all the radios maxed and on 100% duty cycle. that will probably make it a bit warm. I know most of my phones are physically warm (anything that feels WARM to your sense of touch is over 98') and almost hot after a really long conversation. Especially the smaller phones (less material to act as a heat sink) But if all it got was 100' I would not be too concerned. An idea is to leave it on its face and remove the battery cover. It will cool better and make sure the screen backlight is OFF and the screen as well if possible (less E usage less heat build up) Torrents?? Over EVDO and sprint does not mess with you! WOW ![]() As for phones not overheating. How many phones have you had? every single phone I have ever owned has gotten physically warm to very nearly HOT (some of them downright hot as in well over 120') after extended usage. Far less when used with headset (no "face" to insulate and provide heat) but yeah my sanyo 6200 damn that bugger got hot enough to scorch me a little after a 30 minute conversation ![]() Last edited by nerys; 05-15-2008 at 01:41 AM. |
