need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

I tried searching here and didn't find much info so I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I have Phone as Modem on my Sprint plan and I'm trying to tether my Touch via USB on my Mac running Leopard. I have Missing Sync installed and I'm able to sync my Touch to my Mac via USB without a problem; however, I can't seem to get the tethering aspect working.

When I connect my Touch to the Mac and go to Internet Sharing on my Touch, I'm assuming I'm supposed to choose the Phone as Modem network connection and hit "Connect". Once I do that the status on that page changes from "Disconnected" to "Check USB cable connection" and I am unable to connect to the internet. Is there some type of configuration change I need to make on my Mac in order to get this working? It seems like I'm so close but I can't figure out why it won't work. Thanks.

Have u tried this way yet?

Plug USB only into laptop/pc

1. Open IE on Touch to start Data connection
2. Open I.S. and leave it as USB and PCS and hit connect
3. Plug usb into Touch

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

Just tried that - no joy. I tried both Sprint PCS and Phone as Modem but I think I'm supposed to be using Phone as Modem since I do have it on my plan. Is there some kind of special program that I need to install on my Mac to get this to work?

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

I'm not sure Leopard incorporates appropriate drivers to see the phone as a USB modem. That said, there is a program called USBModem by Mobile Stream that I used to use to tether my phones to my wifes G4 running 10.3.9. I'll see if I can find a link. It's not free though, so if you want don't want to pay you will either have to do it over BT or find a version of WMWifiRouter .91 (all over the net, probably in posts here and on the FTP too).

Edit: Link.

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

Now that USB Modem supports tethering via USB in Leopard, does anyone know how I can use the included drivers to tether my Touch via USB? I do have phone as modem on my plan so there's no need for me to actually pay for (and use) USB Modem but I should be able to use the drivers to tether via USB on my Mac.

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

Until the rom upgrade to the "official" wm6 I was able to tether my Vogue just fine with leopard. I would hit the "phone" icon top right (on my mac, I made a "standard" connection) This would connect with my Vogue via bluetooth and tether. It would even give me the connection time.

I also did this with several other roms, but the new one. Nope. I now have to:

- Turn on bluetooth on the phone
- Hit bluetooth button on Leopard - "setup Bluetooth Device"
- Sync with my HTC Vogue as a mobile phone (you will have to turn your bluetooth to "discover mode" on your phone via bluetooth settings)
- Make sure you select "serial port" as an option during the pairing process

Now to tether you have to perform the following each time:

- Turn on bluetooth on phone and mac
- On phone go to comm manager and select "internet sharing" --> Bluetooth PAN
- Hit "connect" on the bottom left
- On your mac click on your bluetooth icon, there should be the name of your phone in that list --> hover and click on "connect to network" and voila!

If this doesn't work and you have upgraded to Sprints new WM6.1 rom Please make sure you perform the following steps in post #1 courtesy of DHARVEY4651 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30265

Thanks for that but I'm looking to tether via USB, not bluetooth.

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

OK np dude, with USB yu can charge the phone at the same time. So I guess that is handy. Should it not work, you can still use the above method while hoked up to USB. Just a last resort thought.

Re: need help tethering my Touch to my Mac

Use PDANet from junefabrics version 2.00... They say in there that the software has a bluetooth dun compatible with mac, not compatible with USB tether... I beleive you have a free trial version.

Hope i helped
