Re: Challange to all the rom chefs

OK, I want to reply to everything.
1. The n00b who starts out using other peoples stuff is learning. I desperately want an Alltel WM6.1 ROM. s10onn2o has offered to try. I have been looking in the meantime to see what was out there and OMJ's tutorial gave me an idea. I could do this myself maybe. So I got the kitchens and a couple ROMs and now I hate everything about my stupid phone and I really hate Sprint for being more popular. Anyway, I am no where near successful and have no idea what i am doing but that doesn't mean I am going to quit. I think this is what Jak is talking about, I am using other people's stuff so i have an idea of what is going on and hopefully be able to do this myself with my own stuff.

2. The idea of having a "No n00b question post" would be/is great. I actually used the sticky already. I get so sick of research because the answer is deep within 50 off topic post. Look how quickly this topic went from a question on what us n00bs are doing to carry on the art to how to make it easier for us to be able to get answers/directions.

3. I teach new employees about phones, plans, features, etc. How I got the job is why I am on this site. I love to know everything I can. I get upset with some of the new guys, while others I baby and don't mind the redundant questions. The reason is some I expect more out of, I see that they have some intelligence and are just being lazy while the others are trying their hardest but just don't have the capacity. Keep that in mind when dealing with the n00bs, I rarely post because I can usually find the answer somewhere or mostly everyone repeats what has already been said with a slight twist, I don't twist very well. I have been trying to BS less that might be the other reason.

Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge and if there is anything I can help with please ask. (Graphics are my thing.) Sorry it was so long winded.

Re: Challange to all the rom chefs

JD - the sentiment of your post / challenge is great and all, but to be honest, when you look at the PPCKitchen capabilities for the Titan / Mogul vs. what is available in the Kitchens that I can find, it becomes pretty obvious that the NON-PPCKitchen options have not arrived, yet - this coming from a person (me) who is arguably not quite a fry-cook.

Personally, IMHO, once Touch / Vogue support is extended to or included in the PPCKitchen, then there are other challenges to tackle.

Of course, this is a very self-serving reply, because what I want (after being spoiled with PPCKitchen support for my Titan / Mogul) is to have the same support for the Touch / Vogue. DCDs kitchen is the closest, but the resutling ROM, much like just about every WM6/WM6.1 hybrid, suffers from sporadic and unpredictable instability issues.

All IMHO -

Best regards,
-boggsie

Re: Challange to all the rom chefs

Your definitely right jakdillard, we do need to do our own work. Building upon other's work will work but we need new developments like what no2chem does with kitchen-ifying ROMs and building his nueTools, or what vboyz103 did in porting a Kaiser SYS to the Vogue for his 'clean' ROM or ImCoKeMaN's work on the SPLs and radios or your work on your special ROMs or Old_Man_Jenkins on his ROMs and custom kitchen toolset, etc to really keep this community going. Currently I've only had my phone for about six months and have only begun my project. I also agree with boggsie in order to do better the n00bs (including myself) will need better tools. I'll help with whatever it takes to get a Elf/'Elfin'/Vogue kitchen comparable to that of the Titan and Mogul. I only hope I can contribute just as much or more back to the community as you and many other great developers and ROM Chefs have in the same amount of time. First, the RL (RegLogger) ROM, 'clean' (or clean enough) ROMs and a few OEMs, then a port of the Pharos (P3470) SYS when its ROM is dumped (since its centered on being a bugdet GPS PocketPC).
