under the task manager the seven program shows no cpu usage. how is that drawing power?

You'll notice you always have a data connection. Above the reception bars you'll see two arrows, all the time.

Exactly. That means the data connection is still in passive mode. This will drain your battery, though not as fast as a persistent connection.

I am not using Seven, or anything else that will use the data connection and I do not have any arrows.

With Windows Live I always have the arrows. Grey means the connection is idle and white means the connection is active. They shouldn't be white all the time.

wow, it's almost 3pm & I'm still @ 80%.

I have Outlook push & 3 pop3 accounts that check every 30min....couple of phone calls, couple dozen texts.

When you truly aren't doing anything, there will be no arrows. Instead you will have a different icon representing cell strength.

Needless to say, when you see arrows, your battery is draining faster.
