Question Jumpy D-Pad Behavior in Opera Mini and Picsel Browsers?

I'm not sure how exactly to explain this, but when browsing in Opera Mini or Picsel and using the directional pad to navigate around pages, sometimes it scrolls by itself as if I held it down temporarily (though I am pressing different directions lightly). I'm not exactly sure how to replicate it as it just seems to happen randomly. I can't tell if it's some sort of bug or if it's some strange feature. FWIW, it's more prevalent in Picsel than Opera Mini.

Does anybody else experience this? I feel like I should record a video of the behavior so that it'll be easier to see, but I'll first see if anybody can chime in.

Here's an example scenario that I might come across:
  1. I open a PDF document in Picsel Browser.
  2. I'm zoomed in pretty far in.
  3. I press the directional pad in different directions without holding any one direction down and navigate around the page.
  4. All of a sudden, after I press some direction once, it scrolls a good amount in that direction as if I held it down and then stops.
I hope I didn't make things even more confusing.

I have the same problem - I don't think there is anything wrong with our hardware but it is the programs themselves. I have adapted by using my finger much of the time to scroll in Opera Mini. It's irritating.

I've had that happen in Opera Mini, but not too often. Never had it happen in Picsel. I'm using the latest Picsel, v1.2

I have this exact problem and I am glad to find other people with the same problem. I have posted three post on three different websites and still cant figure it out. sprint is no help either. I am on my third touch and still the same problem. this is not hardware related either. if anyone can help please chime in because I might have to get a mogul to avoid this. I do a good amount of surfing.

This happens on opera mini because I don't use picsel. I think a youtube would be a great idea

Smartskey doesn't work on the Touch. Incompatible with Opera Mini. You guys should run the newest jbed that was released a couple of days ago.

I've always thought this problem was caused by jbed. Do you have a link or info about the new version? I dd some searching, but only found the old one I already have (on my Touch now, so detailed searching is a bit difficult).

I have the newest esmertec from the kaiser and still the same thing. I really hope someone can figure this out. I even tried different roms and nothing changed. I did notice that with the java that came with the phone doesnt do it using opera but then you deal with all the lockups

I really think it's the java applications like esmertec and intent manager that is causing this problem. What is really weird that it is only happening to about 5% of touch users and it doesnt seem like mogul users have this issue unless I am wrong.
