Re: How to Map Drive Letter to Mobile Device
I use Resco Explorer it adds a option the right-click menu in Windows called "Send to my Device".. when selected it lets you browse to anywhere on your phone and then copies the file there. Seems simpler solution than FTP

Re: How to Map Drive Letter to Mobile Device
FYI: Mapping a "drive" within window requires a machine name and a SHARE NAME. e.g. \\touch\my_documents. One can not map a folder, it has to be a share.
Under Vista, when I connect my phone to my USB port, it is added as a letterless drive under Computer. I can then open it and I see two folders, one for the builtin RAM and one for the Storage Card. No need for any other software. |

Re: How to Map Drive Letter to Mobile Device
You guys (MattOktaNZ & strommsarnac) are off topic. The topic is how to map a network drive to a folder on your phone.
With respect, everyone knows that you can access your phone's folders via your computer. Some people (I'm not saying you guys) need the ability to maintain a permanent link to a folder even when it is disconnected, and some applications will not store the path to a folder on your phone because it is "funky". What you are describing requires user intervention every single time you reconnect (One of you right-clicks, and uses a link in the context sensitive menu, and the other goes into "My Computer/Computer" and double-clicks on the phone). Microsoft as usual has provided functionality that does address the needs of "most" (you) people however there are people (me) who need to map a drive letter for various reasons. For those people using a program like Mocha FTP combined with Web Drive provides a solution. In my case once I placed an FTP server on my phone, the need for "Web Drive" disappeared as the application that I was trying to work with supported FTP in addition to drive letters. Mocha also has Telnet and VNC programs although I haven't tried them in case anyone has the need (http://www.mochasoft.dk) Thanks for taking the time to try to help anyways guys. |

Re: How to Map Drive Letter to Mobile Device
If you want to map a drive letter to the touch, install Card Export II. This allows drive mapping to the sd card only however, but it works great to sync podcasts to my touch. A freeware version might be WM5torage, but when I bought Card Export it did not work on HTC devices such as Mogul and Touch.

To me, that's pretty on-topic. Now, I did mention an alternate method which contrary to what you think, not everyone is aware of. Yea, I know that might be hard to believe, but get a few clients with a few thousand end users and then come back and tell me I'm delusional ![]() |

Re: How to Map Drive Letter to Mobile Device
I think if the OP said why he wanted to map drive it would have helped. I read it as being he wanted an easy way to drop files to his phone rather than the active sync explorer.
Wow you really are a Uber power user then I'm impressed. Your not a consultant are you? Last edited by MattOktaNZ; 03-31-2008 at 11:00 PM. |
