MSM7500 GPS Support Information *NOT a GPS enabled post*
I was reading through the MSM7500 chipset whitepaper and this is the information on the GPS. Keeping in mind the Touch and the Mogul both support this chipset:
gpsOne® position-location assisted-GPS (A-GPS) solution Highly accurate positioning for location-based services (LBS) • Next-generation gpsOne® Assisted-GPS solutions provide enhanced GPS engines for greater sensitivity and faster start times • Enhanced filtering software optimizes GPS accuracy and availability for tracking and satellite navigation applications from the gpsOne product information sheet: Key Funcationality: Supports multiple modes of Assisted-GPS (A-GPS), which leverages GPS satellites and the cellular network for highly reliable positioning capabilities
One another note ... The MSM7500 website also states the chipset supports Linux, makes me wonder if there's a posibility of creating a linux based ROM for the phone, hrmmm .... I wonder if there's already an MSM7500 architecture port distributions out there. Last edited by seigex; 11-22-2007 at 06:29 PM. |
To be blunt: all gpsOne chips can potentially support Standalone mode, it not something unique to the msm7500.
This is far from new and has always been a part of the chip design. The issue though is two-fold
The Mogul and Touch, however, both have internal GPS antennas allowing them to operate in standalone (theoretically). Currently though, this feature is not enabled and is blocked by Sprint/HTC. As mentioned numerous times here on ppcgeeks, the Touch is set to receive a firmware upgrade Q1 2008 (along with the Mogul) to enable this feature. Please search the forums next time in order to prevent posting redundancy. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/search.php?searchid=410730 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...&highlight=gps http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12176 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11874 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10258 --Mal |
