Well, now that I reverted back to a previous city database file, everything is working fine now. Raleigh is working, as is Four Oaks. I probably didn't soft reset enough times. I mean, it is still early in the day, isn't it. I'm not yet firing on all cylinders. Just wait till I get fully revved up! You would be surprised what I can screw up when I really try! ![]()

Trying to update my list but it's been giving me problems.
I just upgraded to the latest official Alltel ROM (WM6.1) and nothing's working. I had it working once, but I can't remember what I did. This is on a PPC6800 with HTC v2.1. Oh, could you add Billings, MT (59101)? |

As for adding your city to the database, copy the file to your computer and add it yourself. Save the file and copy it back to your phone, then soft reset. Worked for me finally, so maybe it'll work for you. ![]() |

Where have you been hiding? That list is super complete, and basically eliminated my project of just doing the state of Louisiana! That's a ton of work!

Hiding! thats where I was hiding :P All kidding aside, I just recently (as in, the last week or so) got into modifying my phones. up until then, I was using a stock carrier rom for my apache (WM5 from alltel) My apache screen is finally starting to die, and occasionally stops responding to touches. So in looking for replacements and upgrade models, I stumbled across the touch pro. in looking for info about the touch pro, I stumbled on ppckitchen/ppcgeeks. And voila, my life story in 3 minutes. Sadly, I don't think I can hold out for the touch pro. I am expecting my 6800 any time now. As for the database, it was fairly simple. I found a complete list of zip+4, city and state (and a bunch of extra info) from the US Census bureau. I downloaded it, and wrote a perl script to parse the needed information and format it into this database. I'll keep the script handy though, because the usps and us census bureau says that on average, 5,000 zip codes change every year. so I expect I'll occasionally have to re-parse the data. I'm just glad my first post could be something the community appreciates, since I appreciate being able to have a fairly inexpensive new hobby ![]() |

Re: Custom Weather Database 10/16/2008 - City Request Accepted (works with Manilla)
That is a great way to start out here! My thanks and welcome here. I can't believe you were running WM5 still. WM6 was ported to the Apache over a year ago by Helmi_c, and WM6.1 has been out for months. BTW, just a tip before you give up on the old Apache give the screen edge a good cleaning with the corner of a buisness card. The gap between the touchscreen will collect lint, dust, etc and raise havoc with the touch interface, and a simple cleaning out can work wonders.
