Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I did the ppst.exe thing after flashing the leaked Sprint ROM. Seems to work great along with doing the reg edit for mode 4. I'm not even using quickgps or astrolauncher and I got 3-5 satellites for the first time ever at work. That's while in a concrete block building with small windows and lots of crisscrossing steel joists in the roof. I might try quickgps again, just to make things even better but it didnt seem to play well with pocketcm for some reason.

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I had changed the reg to gpsmode 4 already with leaked sprint rom. Loaded ppst.exe and it did make a huge difference. locks everytime now and inside my house which it did not do before. works great thanks!!!!!!!

no primer whatsoever is required. just fire up an app like googlemaps and click "use gps" and youre on your way!

Thus, by selecting a supported carrier from the drop-down-list, the PPCKitchen would silently install the appropriate PPST.exe. Obviously, at the moment, cabs are only available for Sprint or Altell.

A great thought, hetaldp.

here is the response that i received in the kitchen thread to the same question when asked a day or so ago:

1) is there a way to implement the ppst.exe and its components from the leaked rom? after allowing all the customizations to run using the leaked rom, then running ppst.exe the gps quality and speed improvement is INCREDIBLE - better than lots of bt receivers im sure you've read. and ive also heard signal is boosted though i didnt really get much of a chance to test that.

2) i think the problem to the internet always being active is that it thinks it needs to use microsoft direct push regardless of whether you have it set to that or not. because every time i disabled the data connection (to save on my battery) after it had started it up, it said something like are you sure you want to stop it, this will disable microsoft direct push...soo...anything there?

3) in my first rom i cooked from here the "menu sounds" (the pop's and clicks from wm5 when you tapped menu's or other items) worked great. now i have that oem still selected, and nothing. so i made my own and selected both (with a few conflicts). still nothing. then i installed over as a cab afterward and still nothing. anyone have any guess as to why that might be?

thanks a lot for all your work!!!!!!!!

As it stands the kitchen only updates the OS portion of the phone, so even if you forget or make a mistake on selecting the right carrier, you only have to rerun the kitchen choosing the right carrier to fix it.

If you made a mistake with the radio, well the kitchen can't easily fix that, you'd end up having to search the forums for a official rom for your carrier to revert the changes made to your radio/phone portion..

Get my drift?

so until all carriers can enable that, it probably wont be happening but o well not a big pain, just select it in user customization, run the exe, and youre still good to go

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Still searching, but, in the mean time, could somebody tell me specifically how to run ppst? I find it in the Windows directory, but can't make it run. I'm not even sure of the file name because it only shows ppst and the icon next to it. Do I have to launch something other than File Explorer?

Help!

Currently it seems that there are only versions of PPST.exe files included with GPS & Rev.A (radio update) ROMs. An official update ROM has been published by Altell and a leaked (unoffical) update has been discovered for Sprint.

If you install either of these (full radio update) ROMs and if you allow customizations to run, PPST.exe will be installed to your windows folder and should execute when you run it.

Alternatively, if you did not install one of these ROMs, or if you happened to install the ROM but DID NOT allow customizations to run, you can download and run the installer (cab file) for your carrier (if Altell or Sprint). If you are not Altell or Sprint, then you DO NOT want to install or run PPST.exe.

So, which boat do you fit into?

Are you Sprint or Altell?

Did you install either the official Altell or leaked Sprint ROM?

Did you allow customizations to run (fully) until the phone reset itself?

Apologies if the questions sound intrusive or unpolite. I just want to ensure that you get the help that you need.

Best regards,

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Thank you for helping!

I installed the leaked ROM, 3.49. I allowed customizations to run. I did see ppst run in the process.

I can find the ppst file in the \windows directory, but nothing happens when I click on it, highlight and press the middle key, or yell at it to do something.

The best thing to try at this point is probably a HARD RESET, which will restore the last ROM image that you flashed to the phone; presumably the leaked Sprint ROM.

This will delete any personal data and settings tweaks from the phone image, that you have setup, since you flashed the last ROM, but it should not disturb anything you have on your sd card.

press and hold the red and green buttons on the front of the phone and then stick your stylus into the small reset hole on the bottom of the phone.

Let the phone boot and as before, allow customizations to run.

If, for some reason, PPST.exe was corrupted, this will restore the file.
