I'm at work so can't try it out yet.

Yeah! 1 step closer, now just need GPS. Hope the radio parts can be extracted for use in XV6900 and sprint :)

Re: New Alltel Rom?

The Rom has GPS, I don't have a Vogue around me right now to test radio, but it should be GPS as well.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

DONT FLASH IT! It comes with a new bootloader that will brick the phone until a new hard spl is released! DONT FLASH IT! If Alltel isnt your carrier do not flash it, it will render the device useless.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

Can anyone confirm it has GPS enabled as well?

Tenny 04-22-2008 08:28 PM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

SINCE THIS KEEPS HAPPENING:
DO NOT FLASH TO THIS ROM, UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ALLTEL DEVICE. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU DO THIS.

How about a new bootloader unlocker? :D

rock02004 04-22-2008 08:41 PM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

yes because I have a dead vogue that needs a new unlocker to work again!

I don't see it either, but I am hoping...

Re: New Alltel Rom?

The Roms OS has the required drivers, thats what I'm looking at. The site doesn't say GPS for the Titan Rom either, but GPS is there

What do you mean brick your phone? If you can't get into an OS a new unlocker won't help. When i have a vogue working to test it on i can make a new unlocker, and if desired i can make it so it won't get overwritten to stop this, but then you'll need to use old one to relock etc.

Its always best to flash ONLY customs once unlocked unless you are daring or really understand everything that it entails.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

Is there any sort of dump or other useful info those of us with working Touches can get you to speed this along? (Your touch is still bricked, I assume?)
Also, I'm not on Alltel, so I don't think I can help, but I'm sure there's an Alltel user somewhere willing to help.

rock02004 04-22-2008 11:50 PM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

i think at this point i would have to wait until sprint releases the reva rom to even have it flash because right now it wont let me flash anything earlier than this rom and it wont let me flash this rom because of the carrier error. so yeah i have a 400 paper weight due to my carelessness.

GnatGoSplat 04-23-2008 12:05 AM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

I doubt GPS is enabled in this ROM.
The Alltel ROM for PPC6800 Titan is NOT GPS enabled. However, the SPL and radio are "GPS-ready".

All that was needed to enable GPS in the Alltel ROM was to add these 3 files from the Sprint GPS ROM:
  • GpsDaemonService.Dll
  • gpsid_qct.dll
  • qccmquery.dll

So if the ROM isn't GPS enabled, but the radio is GPS-ready, adding those 3 files should do the trick to enable GPS.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

^ Prolly why the site doesn't mentions it, but its ready.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

Well the 2.xx version unlocker is underway. I should have a working vogue by end of week, and i have a few other brave testers lined up beforehand so it shouldn't be long. I'm sorry that happened to you rock, in my post i did try to warn people about it, but not sure where you saw the link first. This rom is DEFINITELY risky at the moment for non alltel users! Oh and it does use the infamous 785 header so the radio will not be overwritten.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

thanks cokeman, I know i made a mistake, im usually very cautious about what i flash on my phone but I saw the rom numbers and got excited to have GPS and Rev A. but in the end it bricked my little vogue. I could fix the problem but I dont have the money to do it so my only choice seems like an insurance claim in a couple of weeks. I have learned so much using this forum, some good some bad, in the end its the technology that keeps me coming back for more.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

well i hope the sprint update won't be that far as alltel and bell have released new updates! i thought it was safe to flash dumped roms.. or extracted off shipped exe!!

That's odd, I did the same thing on my Mogul but was able to flash back to the stock ROM.
What happens when you try?

ImCoKeMaN 04-23-2008 08:49 AM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

This rom flashes the special 4350 nbh first if you don't remove it. That doesn't have an OS and won't boot. Then it would load the voguimg file, but it becomes CID locked and the alltel rom won't load on other carriers.

thezero4 04-23-2008 08:55 AM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

Well hopefully someone can RIP the stuff that the sprint users want out of it at sometime. Also Hopefully Sprint releases their update soon.

GnatGoSplat 04-23-2008 08:58 AM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

Ah, I see. Being CID locked wasn't a problem with the Mogul because there were old ROM versions available for every carrier.
I've always wondered why there wasn't a way to cook ROMs with the correct CID and have it work. HTC ROM Tool has CID textboxes, but even putting the correct CID info in there doesn't fool the CID locked SPL.

ImCoKeMaN 04-23-2008 09:02 AM

Re: New Alltel Rom?

once you change the CID the rom is no longer signed thats another change in the SPL patches. The SPL itself isn't carrier specific though, it just locks it to the phone you have. Additionally this 2.xx bootloader won't allow you to load pre 3.xx roms. That is why rock can't get back to a stock sprint one. (assuming he did run the full exe from sprint not a dumped/unsigned one) I sent him a PM to see if there is anything I can do for him but we'll see.

PS: I already have a no-SPL version of this rom ready and will post the link when i get the new 2.xx unlocker tested. At that point it should be good to go, but remember same GPS no reverting issues as the titan.

If you got the insurance, they usually don't making any problems.

Just go to repair center and tell them you did hard reset and now its stack.
I got a brand new one after 20 min’ (for free:mrgreen:)

Re: New Alltel Rom?

yep, if youre paying the $7/month then you have the full package. the only time you need to make an insurance claim is if the phone is lost, wet or physically damaged beyond repair. otherwise your repair center will repair/replace it for you at no cost. if you only have the $4 equipment replacement program (erp) however, you have to make the claim

ImCoKeMaN you are awesome! Thanks for all your hard work on this site. I'm so excited. And I don't even have a Touch, LOL! My wife does though, so I get to play with hers. She will actually be excited about this if it turns out we can get the GPS working.

All my service centers have to order one for you and sprint sends a refurb. So YMMV..

technically thats the route they should be going, though the 'refubs' are still new devices now they are just not in retail packaging. plus, no deductible

Can you explain this to "non-tech" people? Specifically the second paragraph?

Re: New Alltel Rom?

So ok, all these threads posted all over and I'd like to see a nice easy post on how to make the GPS work. Anyone have ideas? If it takes a custom rom, which? And won't a custom rom remove the upgrades from the patch, or do you just go back and reflash the new radio that someone posted? I have found a post of the "missing files" with the exception of qccmquery.dll. So far no dice loading the other two but then again, I don't quite know what to do. So any help for the noobs?

Do you have an Alltel device? ONLY If so, upgrade to this rom (if you haven't), and then copieing those three files "may" enable GPS.

If you do not have an Alltel device, then it's just a waiting game until ImCokeMan can get his progress tested, if all works then everyone else should be able to use the custom rom he made, and at least get Rev. A, and hopefully GPS working too.

So for now, we all wait in anticipation!

Someone already tried that on the first page of this thread...they bricked their Touch as well.

People need to read warnings before they try flashing these official ROMs. Unless you have Alltel, this ROM WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE....atleast until ImCokeMan gets an unlocked version out.

So until then, DO NOT FLASH TO THE OFFICIAL ALLTEL ROM unless you have Alltel.

Well I just updated the ROM for a Alltel 6800 and its working great so far to be a stock ROM. Its a good bit faster but the teathering feature still depends on which server your connected to. But it seems to be using about 10% more program memory now as well. humm...:???:

Wrong forum if you're using a 6800, that would be the Titan forum, not the Vogue forum.
