For the speed skeptic, I just got 898kbit/sec on dslreports.com/mspeed without rev a. I will edit this post to tell you what I get after update. BTW, I am in the 116 SID right now.

Edit: Thanks mark. I found those particular files earlier, but looked p***** them as the one is missing. I also need to know how to use them. So if you or anyone else knows how to use them and finds the other, please let me know.

Edit 2: Speed wasn't any faster for me. Probably my market. Would love to get that GPS working though!

Edit 3: wow... alot of edits... anyway. 3rd file is up on the same thread over at xda. Anyone know where to put it?

Do you know if Rev. A is in your area?

But as stated earlier, put all three files in the /windows/ directory

I have no idea. I don't think so, because I get the same signal and the same speed. I'm in Clemson, SC. I think it's part of the Greenville, SC market. We got EVDO bout a year to year and a half ago. I will be in Charleston in a week and a half, so if no one else has updated, I will try to let everyone know if it gets revA.

Also, I put the files in the windows director, soft reset. Nothing changed.

Yes, and you can use Dot Freds Taskmanager to see if the gps drivers, and services were started, or you might have to manually start them.

Thanks! I checked the tasks, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any more clues for me?

Edit: I take that back. Under the services tab I see the GpsDaemonService.dll running. Gonna play a little more and see what happens.

Edit 2: Guys, I just love to edit in case you haven't noticed yet... So I also just found that the service is stopped. When I choose to start, it says:
Title: "Service Start Error"
Window Content: "The system cannot find the file specified."

Under devices, there is one called 'gps1' that when i choose to load, i get the same error.

I feel like we are inches away from GPS and Rev. A on all devices... I can feel it. The force is strong...

i found those files i posted on xda in another thread so they are not mine. Musicman knows about the Macflo problem and I'm trying to get him the registry dump to help him fix the problem (soon as he tells me how to do it) If you install it to the device you can uninstall when it doesn't work, or just take my word for it - it won't work yet. Something was changed in the cube annimation and face displays. Anyone find other changes that affect software compatibility?

Do you see the GPS drivers loaded under the drivers tab?

Woah, weird... all the posts just showed up. Weird cache I guess. Updating this post now.

mardukeme: I don't see a 'drivers' tab on the task manager. Under the 'services' tab, the gps service points to the GpsDaemonService.dll

I have v3 of the task manager.

BTW, armus... I can't install google maps. I got it to work with a sprite backup, but too many other things were crashing, so I just got my contacts and left the rest alone.

Ironically I saw those words coming. I was just waiting to see who would say them first...

This is gonna happen. Whether it be today, tomorrow, next week, or some time later, it's gonna happen.

I just did the upgrade. GPS is not included in the ROM. The Connection Manager screen has been updated. My home is on the edge of the EVDO signal, so it is switching back & forth between EVDO and 1X connection.

My phone also thinks it is in Roam mode (flashing up arrow n status line). Maybe that will clear up in the morning when I get closer to a good signal. We'll see.

hgray,

Sorry I bricked my phone, so I'm trying to recall it from memory, the tab should be called "Device Manager"

I saw the mogul beta rom come out and I was hopeful. I saw the mogul firmware comeout and I was less hopeful but still hopeful. I awaited the Verizon release with such hope...alas all to be dashed..

After flashing only the radio, my device is deinitely Rev. A enabled. My speeds on my phone have never been anywhere close to as fast as they are now. PLEASE NOTE: flashing just the radio (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU REMOVE THE SPL FROM THE RADIO NBH FIRST) will cause your phone to say "NO RADIO" when it boots. BUT the phone will still work just fine. It has great signal and my internet is 5x faster than it was (based on the speeds i'm getting at dslreports.com/mspeed)

I've successfully flashed it back to the stock radio with no problem.

As i've said before and will say again don't run special_4350 radios and if you run a GPS/3.xx/785 header radio there are parts that will not be overwritten when you downgrade. This may appear to work fine most of the time, but it definitely could cause issues as well so be aware of the risk.

Additionally for all those that have the phones stuck in the 2.01 bootloader i'm going to be working on a fix, but my phone is currently bricked in a different state.

As for the new unlocker, i want to do more testing because it looks like there are other things i might need to check with this rom before the 2.xx hardSPL is safe to flash.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I had to step out for a bit. Thanks for the help though! Your phone is down, but you're still in the game! :-D

So, there is no "Device Manager", but there is just a tab called Devices.

Things are named:
$device\xxx(xxx:)
and the column next to it is the status of the device. Sound right?

So, I looked again and I missed it the first time, but there is a device called "GPD0". It is running the gpsid_qct.dll.
I was able to load the device.

There is another device that looks relative called "GPS1". It runs viser_gps.dll.
I can't load it.

The only other thing I saw that was relative was the service (under the services tab) ;-) "GPC1". It runs GpsDaemonService.dll.
I cannot start it.

I also just noticed that GPSID_QCT.DLL is linked to COM4, so I am gonna try and see what I can get out of that with live search or system prefs, because I believe you can select a com port for an external gps. Maybe this will trick it into working. :-/

@ wnbowman: make sure you *228 your phone and press 3. (htc's instructions)
My phone kept flashing the roaming triangle too. Technically I'm out of my home area, but I just change the SID back when I go from Clemson to Charleston.

hgray, thanks!! phone is resetting now following the call to Alltel.

Others, the GPS is still labeled External GPS. No GPS is detected either by MS Live Search or by Google Maps. :-(

hgray,

I had the same problem before regarding GpsDaemonService.dll i could not start the service, I was receiving the same error message as you are, but I found another version of the file some where else and I was able to start the service. I will look and see if I had saved a copy of GPSDaemonservice.dll somewhere its been a while since I last attempted to get GPS going on our phones.

I uploaded the file not sure if this is the correct one. I do not a valid phone to test it.

I wouldn't do that to you, and that is the reasons why I have not uploaded the radio rom without the spl up. I did not want to be responsible for screwing peoples phones up

I don't think any .dlls can brick your phone?

You may have to reflash but throwing a .dll is like messing corrupting a computer os you can always reformat.

But to each their own.

Stepped out for a bit only to come back and read about possible GPS too now. This just keeps getting better and better.

I will wait for the finished product though. I only have my cell(no home phone) and I need my phone.

Looking forward to trying the finished product though. :headbang:

Thanks! :-)

The driver you gave is much smaller, and it works!

GPS still doesn't seem to be working though.

VIRSER_GPS.DLL still won't load. I'm guessing this is holding it back.
Reg Key seems to say that it is a Virtual Com for GPS1. It's device.

@Calisoldier: so the cab just tosses in dlls? If so, what difference does that make from what I'm doing?

So if we get GPS working on the Alltel Touch, what is the next step for the other carriers? Just use the drivers from the update?

Re: New Alltel Rom?

nice. I was going to say most 3.xx roms are gps/rev a capable from what weve seen so far between the mogul and touch now. Its possible the altell one is capable but just didnt include the gps drivers (didnt pay htc fo rhtem or what not). It should work out though. Im sure if someone doesnt do it Imcoke or another hacker will get it by the time the unlocker is done by the end of the week. its so close

Still working on getting the dang file on my phone. Having issue with my bluetooth.

Wow... this is ridiculous. I can't send it through email either... gmail isn't working.

Okay, finally got that file working... tinkering now.
Should there ever be an option for the gps in "Settings" other than external?

Also, any way to get the dlls to load at startup?

If your talking about External GPS app, I believe you need to set the program port to com 4, and leave every thing the same. and make sure manage GPS automatically is checked off under the hardware tab. Also make sure you have turned Location setting is set to "On"

Not sure why the dll's are not loading at startup, maybe they do not have a signed security certificate.

Also you try chartcross GPS Test http://chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp and set it to com4 to see if it detects the GPS on the device.

Ah... it was on 4, but I changed it thinking that I may have accidentally set it at that.

Also In my previous post I posted a link to a program that will test the GPS on a mobile device.

Re: New Alltel Rom?

The cab only installs the DLLs and makes no changes to the registry whatsoever. I also set it up so it can be uninstalled if it doesn't work. It won't brick your phone.

The DLLs in the cab are signed with developer certs, so you will need to use the "security off" cab to install the certs for the phone to recognize the DLLs as being valid signed files.

If you got the DLLs from a dump, they are not signed at all because they are normally Modules and not regular files. I don't know if turning off security will allow you to use unsigned DLLs, but you could have a security issue there and you wouldn't get a warning either.

On the Titan, all settings are left default and your program needs to be set to COM4. Google Maps doesn't need any settings changed, just select "Use GPS". I have also heard it may be necessary to turn on Location in the Phone options.

hgray,

Did you set the settings within to program to com4, or did you leave it on Automatically detect the GPS? I've played with a mogul in the past that had GPS enabled and it flew right by the Com4 as well, when set to automatic.

I set it to 4, but it still tries to scan all ports.
