Re: Slow, Laggy, PITA to use.

Free RAM isn't necessarily something to fixate on. These phones can just be laggy sometimes.

Here's what I get on a just-hard-reset stock Sprint ROM:

203.20 MB total ram
69.84 MB In use
113.36 MB Free
35% utilization

You could try a cooked ROM, some of them run more smoothly than the stock.

You don't have to worry about free memory.
You've got double the RAM that I've got.

Stop complaining, i had that phone since release. Its 192mb ram vs 256mb, not double. Never had my phone slow down cause it was at 47%, its the actual rom that causes it. Throw a custom rom on, stop worrying about ram and worry about performance. I had mine idle at around 55-60% used and it was fast. Get in the kitchen and make something for yourself, or use DCD's rom or another barebones titanium rom.

Agreed, I also came from a VZW TP. my rom/kitchen works well on VZW TP's with a 12mb Page Pool. get my kitchen and make a titanium only rom use 28011. its faaast

I am proud to say its the fastest rom available ...no, I will not stop bragging about that

Re: Slow, Laggy, PITA to use.

I'm not a programmer. What's this about getting into the kitchen and cooking up my own ROM? I know a little C++, but my first three attempts at making Tic-Tac-Toe in some programming class resulted in locking up the computer.

I definitely don't trust myself to build a custom ROM.

lol, no programming knowledge is required. when it comes to time MODIFY my kitchen's main script, that will come in handy, but it's just batch.

all you need to do with my kitchen is answer a few questions

Code:
Please Enter the name of your ROM: pele
Please enter your desired SYS/XIP version: 28014
Please Enter titanium/manila/both/none (lowercase): titanium
Would you like to baseline the SYS? (y/n): y
Would you like to baseline the XIP? (y/n): n
Please enter desired pagepool size (0-64): 12
RZ relocate modules (EXPERIMENTAL) (y/n): n
thats all, it will go off and do its thing and within a few mins you will have the rom update utility on your screen, ready to flash.

you need to disable user account control and be an administrator on your PC because my kitchen does some low level things like changing system/hidden/OS attributes on the ROM files.

Re: Slow, Laggy, PITA to use.

So explain to me what all the Titanium Manilla Sys XIP stuff is.

And by disabling the user account control on my PC, do you mean the phone? Because I don't run Windows on my Laptop. The Touch Pro is the only Microsoft based item in the house.

Re: Slow, Laggy, PITA to use.

PC means PC and the disabling only applies to Windows Vista or higher that use UAC.

Not sure how well the kitchen will run on a non-windows platform, never tried it myself. Could work from a virtual environment, or possibly WINE, but I would not flash via USB that way..I have had bad experiences trying to do that via Virutualbox on Ubuntu.

As to some of the questions:

XIP/SYS: I am still learning here but I believe the XIP is the kernel and startup files on your phone, SYS is the windows directory of the phone. The number associated with these is your ROM version. I have had good luck with 28011 so far, but others are out there that may be better.

Titanium: Microsoft default Today Shell for WM 6.5 Lower memory and gets the job done but lacks some of the function of Manilla.

Manilla/Sence: HTC default shell. 2.5 is the latest version out there. I prefer 2.1 on Verizon phones just because of the memory footprint.

Re: Slow, Laggy, PITA to use.

Cool.. Another set of questions:

Can I make a new ROM with a better browser? Opera sucks ass.
Can I include Flash and Java with the new ROM as well?

EDIT:
Nevermind. You just go out and find an app and get it. So I'm not limited to the crap that Microsoft and Verizon stick me with. After using PIMBackUp, I realized it IS just like a Windows PC... Install an EXE and you're running.

I just discovered SkyFire... OMG. Java... Flash... The web actually works like it's supposed to.

I'm currently running stock ROM 1.08.605.4 which included a hard reset... It's running Slightly faster now... But SkyFire really is an improvement.
