reading even 50 of these pages or the back 20 would yield the exact posts and most pertinent info on what to do to replace your crappy TP with Sprint's latest most expensive phone.

*not a wise-crack.

it keeps getting longer because no one wants to read. they keep coming to the end and asking the same thing.

Of course no one wants to read, can you really blame people for not wanting to sift through 2,100+ posts, probably 80% saying the same things over and over again? It'd be easier if there were edits/updates in the OP but theres not even that.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

that's because this whole thing is hit or miss. some get one, some don't. but coming to the very end and asking what's been repeated over and over makes long threads.

I went in a few weeks back to get them to fix my keyboard. Assumed it was a conector that probably needs reseating. They didn't even look at it after confirming it was intermittant. Offered me a few phones, I said I wanted to stick with WinMo + a hardware keyboard & Wifi. We'll order you a TP2 they said. And they did. YMMV.

If your keyboard is bad and this is TP #4, go try for 5. It is still a good phone. Never know, they may force a TP2 on ya and you'll just have to tough it out.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

UPDATE:

Went to the ASC to pick up my refurb TP. It has the same texting bug, of course. The lady I worked with originally wasn't there. The guy tech was nice, but I showed him my problem persisted, and he said basically I had no options. I had to live with the bug, or pay to buy a new phone. He suggested I wait a year and upgrade to something else.

I told him I wasn't happy with that, that I needed a phone that worked for texting, which is why I bought this one. He told me I should just "google around" for a solution, that something was probably out there "on a forum or something", that there might be a "registry hack". How unprofessional. I shouldn't have to spend my time fixing Sprint's problem. Even though I actually CAN do that, it shouldn't be something expected of customers. Most customers don't have that level of expertise. I said nothing to him that indicated I had that level of expertise. I was actually playing dumb.

So, I called *2, and went to Tech support. Ended up in finance somehow, and he so he transferred me straight to Advanced Tech Support. The rep told me he didn't understand why the store didn't put me in a TP2, that Sprint and HTC were trying to phase out the TP because of its issues. I told him the store offered me some other devices, but none of them were comparable, which he agreed with. He also understood the problem perfectly, and the significance of why it was a major inconvenience.

He put me on hold about 10 minutes while he was checking on the issue. He came back and told me that he was talking to someone else (either his supervisor or a co-worker, I wasn't sure) and that he so far hadn't come up with any known issues about this problem. He asked if it would be all right for him to call me back after he did some more research, and I said sure. Right now I am waiting for him to call back. Here's crossing my fingers that he actually will call back and just give me the damn TP2.

Good luck ART if you went to the Brentwood store, those guys are A-holes! I would never go back there except to hand the manager a formal written letter of complaint!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Rep called me back and told me that he couldn't figure out a solution for me. He told me that they STOPPED replacing the TP with the TP2. He suggested I call HTC. I told him in a very polite way (this guy has been super nice) that I he has been super helpful, but that I was really frustrated at this point, and didn't want to keep getting kicked around with no resolution. He said he was going to notate my account and transfer me to "Device Exchange" and let me haggle with him based on his notes. He said that as a rep, his hands were tied as to what he could do, and that he was sorry that he couldn't give me the answer I wanted, and that he would want, but that he could "do some footwork" to try and get this resolved.

I could basically tell at this point he was saying: I wanna send you a TP2 but my manager either can't or won't let me, BUT we think if I put in these notes, I can transfer you to a department that CAN do it.

After writing the noted for a bit, he came back and asked me to try one last thing, which was a hard reset. Haha, the funny part is that he gave me the wrong MSL to do it from EPST, so I am going to do with vol down + dpad + power. Though I am 100% sure I'll still have the problem.

I only have the phone in question to talk on, so he's going to call me back in 30 minutes. Hopefully he got the approval to send a TP2 is the hard reset doesn't work. I guess that's normal "triage" as the original memo described, that he needs to get out of the way. Fingers are crossed, I think I am close here!

It was the store in Smyrna. I have avoided the Brentwood store at your suggestion. So far I have been to the Columbia, Donelson, and Smyrna stores with no luck.

--

ARGH! The guy called back, and couldn't help me, so I got the manager, and I am getting another TP. The woman was super nice, and she said if I weren't a spending limit customer, she could credit me the cost of a new TP2, then charge my account for it. But since I wasn't, she could still give me the credit, but I'd have to pay out of pocket for the phone. Can't afford that right now. So she is sending me another TP, and will call me back next week. If it has the same issues, she is going to take some further measures to get me an NIB TP2 (she could've sent a refurb right now, but they're OOS). I declined the inferior phones she offered, and she totally understood. She did say if I had another replacement, I went to some other department that deals with multiple replacements, and that she had no idea what they would do, and they might refuse me a phone all together, so she didn't want me to end up there. (though on the flipside, they might give me a TP2 no questions asked, idk.)

I guess I have to wait another week for some resolution. I didn't push this woman because she was really helpful, and her staff was really helpful, and they did actually call me back. She said in the event that something unforeseen happened, everything was noted on my account if I had to climb the *2 ladder again.

i dont dial *2 anymore for this situation call directly into advance exchange this will save you atleast 10 mins. 877-345-7895
*2 is just like callin the operator, they cant help u with anything but transferring!!!

i call and just tell them look at the notes in my account, can you tell me if tp2's are insstock. twice out of threecalls they have said no and transferred me higher up.

one of the time the lady even called asurion to see if the were exchanging tp1 for tp2. she was going to credit me the $100 insurance fee so i would have to pay anything. but they told her that they were not. (so she said!)

Yes, we can. I sifted through 2,100+ posts. Yes it took me about two days, no I didn't read ALL 2,100+, but I did read! Skip around a little.....and as was stated earlier, the same thing is being said over and over again because A) PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO READ CONTINUE TO ASK THE SAME QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER and B) it, if nothing else, should reiterate some points!

And this is the exact same thing I did today. I already knew to act like I didn't know much....meaning to NOT go trampling in a store talking about a list that we shouldn't have known about anyway. AS PER READING QUITE A FEW POSTS (cough...unlike....cough.....those.....cough.....w ho don't..COUGH), I tried a different store. My 3rd keyboard went out on TP #4. It was checked in and the wait time was TWO HOURS. I remained patient and about 30-40 mins into waiting, I KINDLY asked the host if I could be swapped to a different unit. He asked for my name and walked over to the techs and all I heard him say was "Check on (my name) please". About 10 minutes after that, a rep walked over to me with my TP in hand and said "Here's your phone. We did replace the keyboard, but that's only to get you through til Thursday when your other phone gets in. We are swapping it out". He explained why, gave me the options (which included the TP2) and there was definitely no contest. I had honestly only played with the TP2 just once (last week when a different store put a "new" KB on my phone). We talked for a few more mins and I was on my way out the door.
READ THE DANG POSTS!! It's really not that hard and those who don't and continue to ask repeat questions should be IGNORED! Lucky for them, they will get some people who will tell them nicely to read back into the forums.

And just an FYI, if the 'search' is actually utilized, it WILL bring up a thread or post with the information you need.

P.S.
My TP2 will be in Thurs!! I'm so ecstatic! (Some) Patience (AND READING) have prevailed! Lol. Good luck to those of you trying to get a TP replaced for LEGITIMATE reasons.

Ive been almost a week without my TP and it feels weird. Yea I moved on to the TP2 but I believe the TP forum had the most traffic comin in to PPCGEEKS. This Forum is what gave alot of CHEFS recognition and popularity. But now you come to this side and there is hardly anybody here. Then you go to the TP2 forum and all you see is people askin the same questions. I dont even know where to hang out on this site anymore, if that makes any sense. I havnet even flashed my TP2. We'll see what happens. And to all you "SPRINTERS" good luck!

I thought it was just me!! And I don't even have my TP2 yet! LOL! I'll definitely still be "lurking" around the TP forum; seems to have more interesting topics for some reason too. That part may be just me.
So no worries KillAByteZ, it makes perfect sense....to me. :)

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with PALM PRE

I went into the store to get my touch pro looked fixed because the screen wouldn't come on any more (due to my negligence but that's another story...).

The repairman gave me a choice of many phones to replace my tp with, ie. TP, TP2, BBerry Curve, others, and last but not least, the Palm Pre.I ended up choosing the Pre and I actually love it. I've had it for almost a month now.

My prev phones since 1999 include
some no-name phone that looked like wood-grain on it,
Sanyo 4500,
Sanyo 4900,
3 different candybar style Nokias,
1 flip samsung,

1 flip nokia,
Sanyo M1,
Palm Treo 700p,
Palm Centro,
HTC Touch Vogue,
HTC Touch Diamond,
HTC Touch Vogue (another one),
Palm Treo 800w,
HTC Touch Pro,
and NOW a Palm Pre.

The Pre is the best phone so far, just because it's technology. There are few things I miss from my Windows Mobile phones, though, ie. certain apps and having choices in browsers like Skyfire, or Opera... and I really miss flashing my phone and trying the rom's put out by my ppc geeks!!

I have more to say... but I'm at work... gotta go. I just really missed my ppcgeeks.com forums, because I've been on precentral.net for the past month.

After nearly three weeks of polite banter with Executive CS and an open and shut case, the result, "tough luck kid, go fish!"

back to the trenches, hey perhaps for comic relief I should post a video of my TP randomly vibrating untill I soft reset it! Too bad I have no way to document yesterdays FOUR random resets that result in a restart to airplane mode.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Not that I have much to add to this..
I was referred to this forum by a colleague. My TP was starting to act up and I lived with the issues until they got to the point of unreliability. Meanwhile, I spent DAYS reading the entire thread. So, with the knowledge I gleaned from this thread I went to one store. My original TP was replaced with refurb unit. Ok, I wasn't one of the lucky ones.. But that unit started to act up within a week and I was given the store managers email. After contacting him, I was ordered a nib TP2 that I have now had almost a week and love it.
In my case, courtesy worked as well as a sympathetic store manager.
Now, am I smarter for reading the whole thread or have I lost some IQ points..
Time will tell.. But I do have a shiney new phone...

I hope this does not jinx me, I wasn't going to post anything until it was confirmed. Yesterday morning after having missed call issues with a refurb. I called sprint and was transferred to Multiple Device Exchange, he had to converse with manager and call me back to ok a replacement device. Told him the keyboard, touch, wm, blah blah. He called back asked if a TP1 would be ok and I asked what else he had and he said I was approved for a TP2 if I wanted. I agreed, problem is he didn't have an order # for me because his manager had to put it in. I still don't have a confirm email. Should I call sprint and follow up or am I just being impatient? I don't want a fleeting opportunity to pass me by.

I would call and just ask the regular CS rep to tell you what the last couple of notes on your account say. The manager "should have" put a note saying what they were doing. Good luck!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Received a reconditioned TP2 this afternoon and it was good. Ahhhh.

Thought now that I have mine I should share to help others. First, I live 50+ miles to the nearest Repair Center, so going to a store is almost out of the question. I had a TP1 for about 11 months and it overheated on long calls (no surprise). Called Sprint and was offered all the usual downgrade models from Pre to Tour, I refused because I was taking a trip near a RC. I had already spoken to a Phone Rep, been offered a dif. replacement device, and had an E-ticket #. Took it to a Corp Store and they immediately ordered another TP1. I casually mentioned my phone conversation to no effect.

Replacement device had a blown speaker, called Sprint did the same old song and dance and received another TP1. TP2s were still OOS. This last one didn't receive calls as well as my first one, always immediately sending them to VM. With a last ditch effort I dialed *2 one more time. Went through normal BS trouble shooting, ##Blah# restore, reset, update, which I had already done myself. But the rep could not order me another, said he must transfer me to Multiple Device Exchange and maybe they could get me a dif. phone.

Fred @ MDE deserves a raise. He asked me about my problems, I played really really dumb. Like, "How phone work?" dumb. I told him the requirements (slide qwerty, touch, WM). He went to manager to override system came back and offered me another TP1. I asked what else there was. He said that he could offer me a...TP2. Ahhhh.

My conditions were:
  • 50+ miles to RC
  • hit return limit for exchanges?
  • met Fred (not his real name)
  • played dumb

Basically it was completely phlucking random and you learned nothing from reading this.
Guys, the TP2 is good, like really goooood. If you say that last good really low, you"ll know what I mean. Off to play w/ my new toy.

edit: before Fred I had been through all departments on *2 multiple times, angry, sad, nice, and mean. Nice always seemed to work the best, but dumb is the key. The rep needs to feel like he's doing a good job not hooking some nerd up with a freebie. (which he did)

posted this in another thread, but since this thread is relavent here it is:

Had a friend who's has had his TP replaced five times. Went to a Repair location about 20 miles away from where we live and they guy is ordering him a TP2 as a replacement after his phone broken again. My TP just broke yesterday(screen will not turn on, second phone I have had so far), so i went to the same place. They said my screen was defective (good thing I flashed back to stock rom and locked as soon as i noticed problems with the screen). The guy initally offered me a TP2, but then after checking the stock at the warehouse told me they were out of stock and I would have to get a TP refurb, Palm Pre, or some other crappy phone. I needed a phone so I told him I guess the TP refurb(I really liked my TP) would have to be ok. Got the Refurb today, seems to be working ok. Hopefully if I have problems with this one I can get the TP2 as a replacement.

Well when it comes down to it the sale reps can do it if they want. My friend works for a repair center for sprint and I got my tp2 in minutes, I guess it was easy because I was on my third refurbished phone...

What's the different between Multiple Device Exchange and the normal *2 folks? The Advanced Tech Support manager I spoke with Monday told me after this 3rd replacement TP she sent me, I would have to deal with them in the future. How are they different? She seemed to want to avoid me having to deal with them, because she didn't know how they'd respond to me, as if they might just flat out deny me another replacement.

But from what I am reading on here, they might actually be more likely to send me a TP2?
