Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I'm really glad I saw this thread! Last week, my TP started this fancy new thing where instead of vibrating, it makes an awful, loud rattling noise. This morning I finally had a chance to flash my phone back to stock (new Sprint ROM for good measure), relock it, and take my phone into my local Sprint repair shop. Once there, I explained this new problem and another problem I've had since I got the phone last November (brown circles intermittently appearing on the LCD). The customer service rep then took my phone back to the technician.
After a couple minutes, she came back and explained the technician was checking to see if he could fix the phone and if not, which phone it could be a replacement. Even knowing about the WEL list, I decided not to bring it up. Instead, I played dumb and asked if I would be given an option for the replacement, if my phone indeed needed replacement. She responded with showing me the HTC Snap and explained that it is also a Windows Mobile device, except it doesn't have a touch screen. Exhibiting disappointment, I explained that I really enjoy the touch screen, so I asked about the Touch Pro 2. She said, "that might be an option. I'll let you know what the technician finds out," and said it shouldn't be too much more of a wait. Another few minutes went by and she came back. This time she brought my phone back to me and explained that it does need to be replaced, but they would have to order it. She explained that I had "several options" for a replacement. Off the top of her head, she listed each of the phones on the WEL list, including the TP2, then asked which one I would like. I said I'd like to go with the TP2. She said OK and explained they would order it today and it should be in on Monday. So, for the weekend I still have my ol' Touch Pro. It'll give me a little time to say good bye and play with Calkulin's newest kitchen a little bit before making the switch. I'll report back early next week when I have the phone (unless something goes awry). Thanks for all the info in the thread ![]()

It's a pretty nice phone, it seems a lot more solid that my TP ever was--the TP2 doesn't feel cheap at all. I was worried it might be a little too big, but I actually really like the size and weight of the phone. Anyway, now I just need to pickup a screen protector and patiently wait for the HSPL to come out. Best of luck for those of you still trying to switch to a TP2. ![]() |

Did the person who wrote the email to Dan Hesse about the inconsistencies ever get a reply?

discussed the concerns that prompted you to contact us at Dan@Sprint.com. I contacted our corporate stores regarding our repair and replacement phone policy. The type of replacement phone that you will receive is dependent upon the inventory of the store. The available replacement phones for the HTC Touch Pro are the Treo Pro, HTC Snap and Blackberry that you previously listed. However, if the store does not have any in stock and are not able to order any another possible option they may offer is the HTC Touch Pro 2. I understand that you have contacted Customer Care regarding your concern. If your phone is replaced over the phone with our Advanced Exchange department then it would be replaced with the same model phone. Please keep in mind Customer Care does not have access to the store’s inventory for more accurate information regarding phone replacements it would be best to speak with the in store technicians. To locate a store in your area please visit www.Sprint.com and click on the store locator.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I have some defects that make my TP1 exchangeable. However, I'm willing to wait it out in order to potentially get a TP2.
The question I have is what evidence is there that Sprint is officially replacing all TP with TP2 now? If their is an inventory lag in the refurb'd TP I can see it being temporary but not standard procedure. The TP2 is brand new and the TP is not that old. I doubt supplies have dried up this quickly. I have tried to check on the status of a TEP replacement twice now in the last 7 days. Once online via corp.(online advanced exchange) and once at a brick and mortar service/repair store. In both cases, the replacement is still a TP1 and not a TP2 so I passed. I dont know if the window of opportunity has come and gone or if this is just a lot of fuss over one or two reports. As far as I can tell it is not Sprint Policy to replace TP with the TP2. In addition, it seems a stretch that even Asurion is doing it. I just dont see TP inventory being gone already. I'll keep checking but so far no luck. Any suggestions?

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
That is not the case. They are giving the TP2 as one of a few options. This is because the TP1 is the most serviced device Sprint currently carries. It is serviced at least twice as much as their next most serviced device. This is why they are giving TP2 since it is a comparable device, not because the TP1 inventory is gone.

If you're lucky enough to get a tech who feels like you deserve a TP2 because it is less likely to be defective than a TP I guess this would work out fine. Otherwise, its luck of the draw. We have NO leverage to try and force a TP2 replacement. Citing the fact that the TP has a high incidence of repair might help but it still seems to be that it is at the discretion of the tech doing the advanced exchange. They would be going outside of standard procedure in getting you a TP2. The TP2 is NOT one of the "comparable" devices listed on the WEL list for TEP exchanges. I think this is a case of a regional memo and 1-2 people getting a TP2 snow balling here on PPCGeeks. It is not that easy but still possible. DO NOT expect every TP TEP exchange to get replaced with a TP2 - this is NOT the new policy as some in this thread may have you believe. Last edited by Alpine-; 10-24-2009 at 03:56 PM. |
