Text emoticons

Is there a way to be able to see the actual emitcons in the text when sending one and/or receiving one? I send them to a samsung exclaim and they show on that phone, but when I get one it shows as the puncutation marks. I have touch pro on sprint with stock rom and text app. Thanks!!

i do not believe there is a way to do this. but i could be wrong. ... i know its not under the text messagign settings on the silence 9 rom ... which leads me to believe this is not an option

I know there are some smilies that are essentially a single character in the font used to display text messages. However, they are not standard ASCII characters. I believe they use Unicode. I found an option in Advanced Config to enable Unicode in text messages (it appears to be off by default). I haven't actually tested it w/ smilies yet, tho, so I'm not sure if that's what will enable it or not. Now, if you're wanting graphic smilies (with colors etc) that's a whole different ball game. You'd most likely have to have an add-on program that would look for the multi-character version and replace it w/ a graphic.

Thanks for the replies. Any other text/pic program that anyone suggests that would make the emoticons work and still have the threaded text feature? Thanks!!
