Did Verizon actually remove RAM used in the TP or did they just disable it?

I just flashed to the new Haze 1.2 ROM and its pretty nice.

I noticed something strange though. The original pagepool setting was 24MB's. I flashed the ROM, and it read 75% used memory on first boot up.

I edited the ROM and reset the pagepool to 16MB's, and reflashed, and yet it still remained 75% free.

I then ran a *228 update on my phone, which reconfigured all the settings, and it went down to 60% used at next boot....

So did verizon actually remove that missing 96MB's of RAM? or did they just disable it?! cause if its just disabled, we can run 32MB Pagepools with no problem and zero effect on free memory!

its just not there, also the pagepool_changer.exe utility doesnt work good at all, the only way to change the pagepool for sure is by hex editing, or by doing it inside the kitchen

though the findings you have with a *228 is most interesting and I think I will definitely try it
did you perform option 1 or 2?

Verizon didn't remove the RAM, they buy the phones from HTC with less RAM installed to get a cheaper price, and then sell them at the same price point as their competitors.

I actually have heard that Verizon bought their TPs under contract before the other carriers. Then HTC went and added additional RAM after Verizon had already made their decision. Of course, this could be jsut another rumor.

Either way though... TP2 here I come!!!

that dont even sound right when the verizon version came out 4 to 6 months after all other major providers verisons came out!! so i guess at&t asked htc to add a cmos camera to?! u got to remember verizon has a long history of gimping devices ( hardware and software). this is just the first time they went this hard to gimp the device ie gimping hardware at factory build! ( im not %100 sure that this is the first time)

i just pray them dont make the same mistake on the tp2! im sure they see it didnt sell as well as other carriers versions or even worse other verizon wireless phones!!

well for one thing the vzw version of touch pro came out weeks after sprints release not months

As far as why it was gimped, we had an informant here during the touch pro debacle last year that seemed to indicate verizon ordered the devices with less ram. As for reason your guess is as good as mine

As for the gimping, I think every company makes changes to devices regardless of intention (ATT keyboard on touch pro, sprint changing the battery backing for example), as far as why would vzw do it, I have no idea. We don't know why it was that way, and all we have is speculation...

As for touch pro 2, its not gimped, we have enough evidence its not gimped
