Yes you should always do both *228 1 and 2 after every flash with a VZW phone...
It not only programs the phone but it also programs Arcsoft to work correctly and sets up your data connection properly.

You will find yourself with data and roaming issues if you don't.

You should also install PPST2.01.cab to unlock your GPS. If when run it says it is already installed then cancel, go to windows folder and run PPST.

It does not stay in memory so you need to run it after every flash and hard reset to get GPS to work.

I am building a Rom just for Verizon with the help of a new partner. Not sure when this will be up and available but it is in the works. I currently have feedback from a couple people using my Rom on Verizon saying it works well. Its called Haze V1.1

the gps works on google maps (although i'm not too find of google maps on here), so would i still have to install that PPST2.01.cab?

That's awesome you're workin on a rom just for verizon, there's too many sprint roms on here lol let me know when it's all finished i'll try that one out too
